    Superbowl Ads - Live blogging

I sit here before Deadman's brother's giganamous extreme-density power projection screen, eagerly awaiting the biggest television event of the year--Superbowl Ads XLIII. Yes, I belong to that silent majority of superbowl watchers who don't give a flying football about Cardinals vs. Steelers. We're here to see Ford vs. Toyota, Coke vs. Sprite, Bud vs. Miller, Mac vs. PC. I'm here to live blog answers to all your burning ad questions:

    1. God, does this guy have to endorse everything!?!

    2. I think it's safe to say he's a shoe-in for "High Times: Sportsman of the Year"

    3. So that's how he was able to put down 8,000 calories in a day without a problem

    4. Note to College Swim Coaches around the country: Your team's eyes aren't red tomorrow from the chlorine

    5. Ohhh, so that's why it was so foggy in China

    6. "Oh you better take an 8th hit Michael. Spitz took 7 down easy."

Super Bowl Special: Who are you rooting for? The psychology of fan loyalty ...

Tomorrow evening, the football franchise I grew up with, the franchise I lived and died with and rushed home from Hebrew school every Sunday to watch play, will be competing - after decades punctuated almost entirely by failure and futility - for its first world championship. And I really don't give a damn.

In fact, under normal circumstances, I'd probably be rooting against the Cardinals, sipping on some of that sweet schadenfreude soup, just like I've done in the 20-plus years since the franchise bolted from my hometown of St. Louis.

    READER BLOGS!!!!

Hello dagsters. Several weeks ago, longtime dag reader California Paige suggested that dagblog should add a "reader comment interface." I was very keen on this suggestion and enthusiastically promoted it to the whole dag crew. The whole dag crew was open to the idea, but some of us were troubled by the fact that we didn't know what a reader comment interface was. So we scratched our virtual heads and engaged in a tedious semantic debate over the term "interface" until Orlando came up with the brilliant idea of asking Paige what she meant.

Super Bowl Prop Bets - An Outsider's Perspective, part 1.

It's hard to care about this year's Super Bowl. Sure, I could take the easy route and blame it all on the world melting around us like a spoonful of margarine grilling on my Rachel Ray cookware. But I won't, I can believe it's more than transfatty fake butter. Unfortunately we got ourselves two high quality teams, armed with likeable personnel and two Jesus-like figures under center - one who is see here: and the other whose cranium can withstand a high speed Harley accident. It sort of reads like an awful M.

Super Bowl Special: The Top Ten Mega-Sporting Events (10-6)

The Super Bowl is upon us. It's a remarkable event, able to bring together the vast majority of Americans, calling them to a rather inert form of action in living rooms and bars all across this great land. In this Age of Entertainment Plenitude, with the hundreds of TV channels and thousands of other diversionary options we now enjoy, it's a remarkable feat.

    Review: Rachel Getting Married

In the film Rachel Getting Married, Anne Hathaway plays Kym, a young woman fresh from another stint in rehab who returns home just in time for her sister Rachel's wedding. Kym, accustomed to being the center of attention, struggles to integrate into her suddenly extended family of in-laws, bridal party, and old family friends.

Around the World in 80 Songs: Kenya

I’m not quite ready to let the inauguration of President Barack Obama be in the past, so this week, I’ve been looking into the music of Kenya, home of Obama’s father.

First up: Ken wa Maria, headliner of the Yatta Orchestra International Band, a popular Kamba act. wa Maria seems to be a bit larger than life, attracting as much attention for his controversial lyrics and his will-he-or-won’t-he-run political ambitions as for his music.

    MOFT: Episode 7 (Well, duh...)

Can there be any question as to what My One Favorite Thing this week was? Could it be any more obvious?? I mean, clearly, it was Rick Warren's Invocation Speech. Duh. What a beautiful testimonial to the goodness of god, the power of prayer and the righteousness of Scripture!

Did the Power of Positive Thinking Get President Obama Elected?

What a week. I've been home for four days and it still doesn't seem real. I've talked and written about the things we did while in DC, but I've been slower in finding the right words to express how I felt about the experience.

    The Offensive Tradition

I published this piece long, long ago at the height of the political correctness "movement." Though the PC frenzy of the 90's has subsided, a recent complaint on this site by Jorn Barger, one of the first bloggers and coiner of the term, weblog, demonstrates that this piece is still relevant.

    Reader Survey: Presidential Transition

Is anyone as utterly and completely creeped out by the picture in the center as I am?

Also, apparently adding a little Obama to Bush is like giving him a facelift.

    The God Complex

Greta Christina has written a straight-forward piece at AlterNet that addresses what was wrong with all of the piety at the inauguration.  For my money, here's the quote:

I am no less a liberal for being a Christian. So I was somewhat dismayed that Rev. Rick Warren has come under fire for what some bloggers have called his "inappropriate" invocation at President Obama's inauguration.

The View From the Mall, Rick Warren, and Transportation Issues

Usually, on leaving day I get a wistful feeling, reflecting on the good times that I've had, happy to be getting home but sad that my vacation is over.

I don't feel like that today. Yesterday was a day that I will never forget, but today I'm even happier. My head is filled with hope and possibilities for the future.

Obama's Inaugural Address : The (Almost) Line-by-line review

So, A-Man, Genghis, Orlando are all painting D.C. blue tonight, making it tough for them to discuss in detail the incredible experiences they must have had today. In the meantime, I figured I'd give my take on Obama's inaugural address.
