A Blue Moon of a Friday Afternoon at the Haikulodeon

Here's this week's heap of haikus:

    In re: That Blue moon;
    It saw me standing alone.
    Well, what's wrong with that?

    ---

    Oh spare me please from
    the elucidation of
    Conservatism.

    ---

    With baskets of fruit,
fruit goes bad ... bodies and minds,
    just the opposite.

    ---

    Aided by a breeze,
    a cardboard cup strolls along
    West End Avenue.

    ---

    The sweetness that lives
    inside my lover's eyes will
    melt my fears away.

    ---

    tanka haiku:

    The Twenties; When men
still swam in tanktops and the
    women bobbed their hair.
Both drank ‘bootleg hootch’, while young
        flappers danced to jazz rhythms.

    ---

    I know where I've been,
    and where I currently stand,
    but come tomorrow ...?

    ---

    South wind, cloudy sky
    the ever present mountain
    never once asks why.

    Rube Goldberg was heard
to say, "That's what I meant by
    get Bach to nature."

    With a painter's eyes,
and a poet's soul, he found
    beauty ev'rywhere.

    While on a pub crawl,
they spotted an old school mate
    living on the street.

    A girl and her mom
    stroll through Madison Square Park
    after eating lunch.

    ---

    Waiting patiently
for the next train to depart,
    I think up haikus.

    ---

    A leaf-less tree frames
    a lonely farm-house in the
    middle of nowhere.

    ---

    There is a structure
to all things, and a context
    to fence it all in.

    ---

    Walking through meadows
    just before sunrise is worth
    some wet trouser cuffs.

    ---

    I drove through the night
to get to your front door and
    ask you to be mine.

    ---

    Siamese twins are
    conjoined. Why are Siamese
    kittens just confused?

    ---

    Outside mom's window
    the trees noiselessly rustled
    as she fought for life.

(My mom passed away on July 31 of 2012, a week short of her 94th birthday.  Hard to believe its been three years.  Here she is on a carousel on her 90th birthday.)

    As we left the church,
    Birds began to sing. Angels
    whispered, Life goes on.

    ---

    The calla lilies
    sported little freckles, which
    made me think of you.

    ---

    The scariest words;
“The doctor will see you now”,
    all come with co-pays.

    ---

    Anguish and remorse
    when embraced by solitude,
    will shed bitter tears.

    ---

    tanka haiku:

    Alas, we live in
    a linear existence;
    the Past is prologue.
        But that is only because
        we are walking in circles

    ---

    Purgatory? The
hell of it is, you can't get
    heavenly coffee.

     ---

     If you have a job
    with no time parameters,
    you must be shiftless.

    ---

    As the dusk draws nigh
chickens roost and dogs bark at
    approaching shadows.

    Feel irregular?

     He went tree to tree
in search of fallen fruit, but
    Nature denied him.

     A-True-Story double haiku:

    The out-of-towner
    asked the bagel store worker,
    "What's the softest one?"

    To which the worker,
    replied, "The softest bagel  ...
    would be a croissant."

    ---

    She smiled and whispered,
'I will never forget you' ...
    But, by Noon, she had.

    After the rainstorm
    shimmering shafts of sunshine,
    broke through the dark clouds.

    The bride stripped bare, and
    nude descending a staircase ...
    Duchamp 'readymade.'

(Happy would-have-been 128th birthday this week to artist Marcel Duchamp.)

    I feel so alone.
I watch the tide come in and
    think of yesterday.

    My first bicycle
had baseball cards in the spokes
    of its wheels ... Vrooom!

    They are determined,
    those yellow dandelions
    pushing through sidewalks.

    ---

    tanka haiku:

    You have long endured
    both hardships and heartbreaks and
    yet, you wish for more.

       For you think that happiness
       is paid for by misery.

    ---

    The setting sun sinks
    into the ocean, stealing
    all light from the sky.

    ---

    Her fragrance lingered
    long after she'd disappeared
    with the morning mist.

    ---

    Could there ever be
    a greater compliment than
    "You've got me thinking" ... ?

    ---

    Your hope for glory …
too often settles for praise …
    don’t lose your focus.

    ---

    In all of us there's
    an inner light that's shining
    seek its radiance.

    Gratitude exists
    because people have learned to

    appreciate Life.

    It's not that kindness
    exceeds our expectations
    it is all a gift.

    Kindness should never
    be unexpected. It is
    our ground of being.

    Once in a blue moon

we are all left to wonder

    what life really means.

    The rest of the time

    we just wander aimlessly

    looking for our keys.

    Excellent, Missy!!

    What Life really means
    can only be understood
    'neath a paper moon.

    I wandered, looking
for the key to the manor,
    (which was B minor)

    finding the manor
    key, B minor was major
    (See stars in the sky.)

     Though Major, Minor
    and Manor matter, the
    moon doesn't flatter.

    Green is my valley,
I kissed Sally too soon, t'was
    once in a blue moon.

    Awesome, Mr. Smith!!

    See stars in the sky?

    So minor though it matters

    when she questions why.

    'Neath a paper moon

    he flatters in the valley,

    kissing her too soon.

    Ha!  Good one!!

    Flatter the valley,
    more mountainous the plateau,
    it's all on paper.

    Mood swings are epic

    My mind rearranges stars

    Look, it's a blue moon!

    Nice, Oxy!

    Crying my eyes out,
    then laughing hysteric'lly,
    Mood swings seem epic,

    Dread propels the task
    unless I shift more quickly
    than his whipping arms.

Okay, I just woke from a short nap, so I may be easily confused at the moment, but I don't understand this one, moat.  Sorry, give me some time and I'm sure I'll figure it out.  LOL

I was riffing on your work-shift haiku and wondering how to survive complete saturation.

    Oh.       Good one, moat!!

    my first dying leaf

    I saw it today walking

    August for chrissakes

    We are all dying

    So I perceive leaves dying

    The end must be near.

    hahahahah

    Our end is so near

    Entropy is the future

    All 'us' things must end

In the end all things must end

    You can shake the blues

    by cleaning all the toilets

or making the bed.  ---and do you fucking believe this, the cursor won't move down to the next line, so I have to write this in reverse

Forget the leaf, my cursor isn't working.

    I'm the curser
    cursing the cursor; discuss
    this cuss with disgust.

    See

This kind of pun just gets to me.

    the end

    hahahahah

    “All Things Must Pass”

    Sunrise doesn’t last all morning
A cloudburst doesn’t last all day
    Seems my love is up
And has left you with no warning
    But it’s not always going
    To be this grey

    All things must pass
    All things must pass away

    Sunset doesn’t last all evening
A mind can blow those clouds away
After all this my love is up
    And must be leaving
    It has not always
    Been this grey

    All things must pass
    All things must pass away

    All things must pass
None of life’s strings can last
So I must be on my way
    And face another day

Now the darkness only stays at nighttime
In the morning it will fade away
    Daylight is good
At arriving at the right time
    It’s not always
    Going to be this grey

    All things must pass
    All things must pass away
    All things must pass
    All things must pass away

    - Written by George Harrsion

    This just kills me.

I had to read it ten times.

    But damn!

    I always liked George, hahahahah

    Well done Mr. Smith.

    All things must pass.

    I guess.

    I thought about this.

You recall memories for me. hahahah

Oh I have to add my favorite rendition

I just found it again. ha

    I just love this rendition.

This James Taylor version is great!  I had never heard it before.  Just shows how enduring a 'simple' song can be.  Buddy Holly wrote some wonderful songs that have more than passed the test of time.
