The allegations against R Kelly presented in a Lifetime network documentary seem pretty damning, It is possible that Kelly will never suffer legal consequences.
Few celebrities who worked with R Kelly are willing to speak out. John Legend was the exception
Legend was the only A-lister who agreed to appear in the docuseries.
“It was incredibly difficult to get people who had collaborated (artistically) with Kelly to come forward,” hampton told the Detroit Free Press. “We asked Lady Gaga. We asked Erykah Badu. We asked Celine Dion. We asked Jay-Z. We asked Dave Chappelle — people who have been critical of him. That makes John Legend even more of a hero for me.”
In another interview with Shadow and Act, she explained why they declined to speak about Kelly.
“I mean, most people just don’t want to touch it,” she said. “I remember Ahmir [“Questlove” Thompson] was like, ‘I would do anything for you but I can’t do this.’ It’s not because they support him, it’s because it’s so messy and muddy. It’s that turning away that has allowed this to go on.”

R Kelly views the accusations as a vendetta.

It took decades and a few brave women to keep at it against all odds before Bill Cosby ended up in jail, meanwhile he lived a free luxe life where he was still "America's dad" with lots of enablers who did not want to speak out against him. Just sayin'. Strikes me that what's happening now is what needs to happen and the fact of the support of the Lifetime show is something that Bill Cosby's accusers didn't enjoy. So it's happening faster.

His music sales appear to be increasing after the airing of the documentary series.

Yes I know, I saw that. More's the pity. It's not easy when the person is powerful and has many fans and powerful friends and the victims do not. Fandom by it's very nature is delusional, the target is an idol.
Once again: Cosby, it took decades.
All I was really trying to say: your Cosby comparison is not at all a fruitful one. Do you think it should take decades?

R Kelly should have been in court years ago. The allegations go back at least to 2000.

You think him being in a court case would stop the fans from buying his stuff? Or would it just be the white privilege system attacking him for being a successful and rich black man and make them want to buy his stuff all the more?
Comes to mind Clarence Thomas played that tune and won.

Trump played the tune into the White House. Chris Brown is still popular. Kavanaugh is on the Supreme Court. Speaks volumes about segments of the population.

Not sure how you compare Kavanaugh with Chris Brown.
Not even sure how you compare Kavanaugh with R. Kelly - https://people.com/music/surviving-r-kelly-8-women-abuse-share-stories/

Violence against women. One was investigated, the other wasn’t.

A 40-year-old late charge of a high school kid with a not-even-completed attempted rape/grope in a back room, vs.a real-time report of Brown bludgeoning his girlfriend? [the FBI did investigate Ford's claim against Kavanaugh, and the friend she said was there responded that she didn't know Kavanaugh, even though she believed Ford - i.e. not very open-and-shut]

Producer of the Lifetime show makes it clear that for her about it's about planned abuse of the celebrity power situation:

R. Kelly and the Cost of Black Protectionism
A Lifetime series that examines long-standing abuse allegations against the singer—and the continued support he has received despite them—contains an uncomfortable truth.

Cosby and Kelly benefit from the lack of trust in law enforcement. Black men have been targets for decades. Just today, we had the Governor of Florida pardon four black men charged with rape in 1949. 70 years to get “justice”. All the men are dead.

Black women have suffered dual abuse because they were dismissed by the legal system and the black community. Hopefully, going forward, more care will be taken in listening to their cries for help #MeToo was started to help abused black girls. It was co-opted by white women, until recently.
