The intra-Palestinian meeting in Moscow has precedent
— Hanna Notte (@HannaNotte) February 29, 2024
Russia's hosted such meetings in the past, most recently Feb 2019
Russia has long lamented the US' "monopolization" of the peace process & tried to carve out a niche for itself: mediating among the disunited Palestinians/2

A mass expulsion of Afghan migrants could destabilize the region and fuel radicalization. The West should pressure Islamabad to change course.
All eyes on #Chad right now
Chad has two internet trunks coming into the country: One from the Red Sea via Sudan; the other from Cameroon. Not possible for the totality of the country's internet network to be shut unless done centrally. A lot of rumors swirling; few facts. https://t.co/N6bDJZ2ixO

Another Buzzfail. I don't doubt that these hacks helped promulgate anti-Sorosism, but they certainly didn't invent it, either in Hungary or in the US. Hungary politicians started spinning Soros conspiracy theories almost as soon as the wall came down. And Soros has been a mainstay of Fox News conspiracy theories since 2004.

The article really isn't about anywhere but Hungary, and while there's been anti-Soros talk, there was also pro-Soros (and pride as a native son), incloding OpenSociety projects and his college. The point is about successful rebranding and making Soros a more overt boogieman for all things 24x7, especially to personify the refugee crisis. Soros was a secondary character on the US stage - Hillary got all the attwntion. Now, how much did other efforts like Russian intrigue and traffic influence this? Dunno - might be way too flippant to credit these 2 jokers w all the change and Orban's success.

Did you read the first link? Everything Orban said about Soros had already been said been said by Hungarian leaders in 1992. Naturally in the US, the Democratic nominee received the most focus in 2016, but Soros is nevertheless a fixture on the right who received as much attention in 2004 as he does today. Basically, the writer found these two guys who exploited the existing Soros mythology and played them up as the evil genius behind the myth, which misrepresents the history.

They did not invent anti-Soros antisemitism by any means ( I think I explained my background here, and promoting/funding free press, minority rights and other progressive ideals in the regressive east/balkans certainly bubbled up a lot of enemies. What these 2 may have done is greatly improve the dissemination of these attacks in promoting Orban's brand, including closing Soros' university. Though certainly there was Meciar in Slovakia and Milosevic in Serbia and other backwards cretins for other backwards lands. We can compare the Manaforts, Tad Devines and Roger Stones for campaign effectiveness as well.

Hungary spent €40m on anti-Soros propaganda in 2017.

It's expensive getting the truth out when Soros gets his stinky globalist fingers around your country. 40 mil is pocket change for Soros but a real and necessary expenditure for Hungary.

I wish I got some of that Soros' cash but most of it seems to go to mouthpieces like Atlatszo and Open Secrets.
