    Anti-migrant in 'sanctuary' cities

    a public defender

a woke lefty 'abolitionist' member of the NYC Council:

    Oh and in the UK

They're not illegal immigrants, they're mobile international labor markets.

Deregulating immigrants makes it easier to regulate the terrorists among them. (special line at the border and such)

Apparently I wasn't the only one to try inhaling household solvents as a teen.

    mobile international labor markets yeslaugh

'Venezuelans' appear to be the new hot button, especially after Hochl said they number about 40% of the border crossers sent to NY:

I fought for TPS for Venezuelans when I was in Congress, and four years later is overdue but as necessary as before. Florida is home to so many Venezuelans who have fled a brutal dictatorship, and granting them protective status is the least we can do.

    — Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (@DebbieforFL) September 21, 2023

@JoeBiden is legalizing HALF A MILLION Venezuelans in order to come to areas like Chicago and flood Black neighborhoods.
He's no longer even PRETENDING to be doing it legally. He's just flooding the zone wholesale now.

(I am thinking ot some past Dagblog members, wish they were here to 'splain why so many want to leave a socialist heaven for the U.S.A. Are they really all C.I.A. agents or what?)

    What "global collapse"?

Ukrainian refugees were a bit more orderly, and they're running from missiles.

What's Venezuela's prob? Imagine if they were Haiti instead and just go back home.

Re: What's Venezuela's prob? I just figured that out. (DOH!) The Biden admin. just qualified Venezuelans for Temporary Protected Status during which genuine refugees from persecution can apply for asylum. That's obviously been big news in Venezuela, so you've got a flood of those who think capitalism will give them better chances and they all plan to present persecution stories

    Worse than Ukraine, eh?

I dunno if that's what's happening with current refugees, but certainly sounds familiar about how NYC works in general

I think Peru is about to deliver an unwelcome wake-up call to the Americas.

It's not only authoritarian socialism, like Venezuela's, that drives mass migration, but also mafia capitalism, like Peru's.

Lawmakers chip away at regulatory bodies to the point markets no longer work.

    Ron DeSantis:

Elon Musk, Sept. 29 (and probably not what you presume from recent antics, though perfectly logical for a very rich immigrant enterpreneur):

A lot of people have a meta-misperception about immigration politics where they think opinion has become more restrictionist, when actually what happened is the growth of the pro-immigration minority has made restrictionism more salient.

There was no "populist right" leveraging an anti-immigration backlash to win elections in the mid-1990s because this was the Democratic Party position.

but some people still call 911?

Please do not come to New York.'

'In more than a dozen interviews this week in Necoclí and on the streets of Mexico City and Ecuador’s capital, Quito, most U.S.-bound migrants said that they would not be dissuaded by Mr. Adams’s statements.'

'In Quito on Friday, a hundred feet from where the mayor and his entourage were touring the historic city center, Carlos Gabriel Hernández sat on a restaurant doorstep with his wife and two young children. He said that he and his family had already tried and failed to cross the Darién Gap but were determined to try again to reach New York. He was puzzled, even offended, to learn the purpose of Mr. Adams’s visit.'

“How can you tell someone not to follow their American dream?” he asked.

When SubSaharan Africa grows by 2 billion over the next 25 years how many will want to come to New York?

It's gonna get much worse - including another 15% south of the border

Latin America population continued growing up to 512 million inhabitants in 2000 and it is estimated that it will rise to 680 million in 2025 and 779 million in 2050.

“How can you tell someone not to follow their American dream?” he asked.

“How can you tell someone not to follow their Jewish dream?”, PP rhetorically asked.

Presumably Israel supporters see how well loads of immigrants are welcome around the world, and adjust their illegal settler policy accordingly. Except the immigrants here are the same ethnic group as the ruling elites, so the reaction is 180 degrees reversed, local inhabitants br damned.

Guatemala’s top court upholds suspension of president-elect’s party. His supporters block roads

(psst, Nicaraguans:  there's far far from enough immigration courts and judges, so like with the Venezuelans now, if Mayorkas/Biden were to make this change, all Nicaraguans who want to come would have to do is make up a good persecution story to get in, and for the next 5 or 10 years - or perhaps even longer if you/re good at hiding from ICE - enjoy being in the U.S. while you wait for a court/judge to vet your story)

The Biden administration on Monday warned those involved in a new migration scheme to help Cubans, Haitians and other asylum seekers reach the United States by flying expensive charter planes to Central America that they risk the wrath of U.S. law. Brian Nichols, assistant secretary of state for the Western Hemisphere, said he is concerned by reports of a dramatic increase in Nicaragua-bound charter flights carrying Haitians, Cubans and others migrants who, with the help of traffickers, make their way to Mexico with the hope of entering the U.S.

By flying directly into the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua, migrants have been able to bypass the Darién Gap, the dangerous stretch of jungle separating Colombia and Panama, and get around U.S. asylum restrictions.

Last week, the Miami Herald and independent Nicaraguan media outlet and partner La Prensa reported that tens of thousands of Haitians had made the trip since August, paying as much as $4,000 for a one-way ticket from Port-au-Prince to Managua. Hours after the Herald’s report, the government of Haiti announced the suspension of all Nicaragua-bound flights. But the head of Haiti’s National Office of Civil Aviation, Laurent Joseph Dumas, has told local media that the shutdown is only temporary to allow for better organization, and the flights will soon resume. “No one should profit from the desperation of vulnerable migrants — not smugglers, private companies, public officials or governments,” Nichols said on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.

The administration, he said, “is exploring the full range of possible consequences for those facilitating this means of irregular migration. We continue to urge the use of safe and lawful pathways.” Eric Stromayer, the chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, warned Haitiansin a video message that if they are “considering going to Nicaragua and then traveling overland to enter the United States illegally,” they should think twice.[....]

    Canada tackles the migrant issue

Services for taxpayers in NY will be cut drastically in order to pay for illegals.

These budget cuts reduce the number of police officers and reduce spending on education by $1 billion.

More on the way, Mayor Adams adds.

I think DeSantis tricked immigrants, didn't just "offer".

Ambassador Brian A. Nichols, Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, U.S. Department of State.  Tweets directly from me signed -BAN:

If you cross the U.S. border unlawfully & have no legal basis to remain in , you can be quickly returned to your home country. This month @DHSgov continues flying Venezuelans directly back to Venezuela. We urge potential migrants to reconsider – use lawful pathways instead.

....Migration was a dominant issue in the Dutch election. For EU politicians, it remains a pressing concern. As migrant numbers continue to rise, so too has support for far-right parties in many countries in Europe. In Italy last year, Giorgia Meloni won power for her Brothers of Italy. In France, Marine Le Pen’s National Rally remains a potent force, in second place in the polls. In Germany, the Alternative for Germany has also surged to second place in recent months.

In his victory speech, Wilders vowed to tackle what he called the “asylum tsunami” hitting the Netherlands.

“The main reasons voters have supported Wilders in these elections is his anti-immigration agenda, followed by his stances on the cost of living crisis and his health care position,” said Sarah de Lange, politics professor at the University of Amsterdam. Mainstream parties “legitimized Wilders” by making immigration a key issue, she said. “Voters might have thought that if that is the issue at stake, why not vote for the original rather than the copy?”....

^from the A.P. article. the last above; super ironic because Republicans are usually happy to take migrants from these two countries, and if they become citizens, former Cuban/Venezuelan refugees often vote Republican

López Obrador has said he is willing to help, but he wants to see progress in U.S. relations with Cuba and Venezuela, two of the top sources of migrants, along with more development aid for the region.

^ one excellent example of that in anotherr story about a Venezuelan military family that are active opponents of Maduro:
