Lets face it. All male groups be it all male schools, sports teams, fraternities etc. tend to let the worse impulses of masculinity flourish. Not just among the most aggressive of the boys/men. Even those who wouldn't behave so sexually aggressively are pushed towards sexual aggression and if not actively involved at least tolerate and encourage their more aggressive brothers. This article is a bit of information about that basic reality as it manifests in elite prep schools.

I can do better, I think. The abbreviation prep comes from "college preparatory." This means you send your kids there so they can then go to Yale and Harvard where they get to do stuff like join Skull and Bones and go on panty raids and make friends for life doing so. And then everyone gets a job at Foggy Bottom or a white shoe firm. And then they marry a girl who clutches her pearls, especially when someone like Don Draper turns out to be an impostor. Just goes to show you what trash the whole Madison Avenue game is. If you buy quality it will last forever. Burberry. L.L. Bean. Puritan family vales after sowing wild oats. Nowadays, they have no clue that people wearing dreads are imitating their style in an ironic manner.

Broaden the focus. Just as Catholic Priests' celibacy clearly had its unfortunate by-product , segregating teen age boys awash with testosterone has its consequences.
Maybe there are offsetting advantages that's a different discussion but there's clearly a down side.
The school doesn't have to be "elite" , mine was routinely and correctly called a "reform school for Irish brats".
