From the NY Times article on the subject, what I found interesting within the already fascinating story was the quote by the lead scientist Dr. Paabo.
This is kind of like while scientists can break down the brain into all of its component parts and explain the basics of the interactions, they still can't explain consciousness.

Not really. All the books had 'blue' sections. I think publishers require them in historical romances. :-/
