I watched a few minutes of the speech, and like CNN reports, he stuck to the script. But what they don't say is that his delivery was even worse than usual when he teleprompts it, not just sing songy, but very reminiscent of 8th grade. At the same time, the part I saw, I noted that the writer(s) were 8th-grade savvy, among a list of great Americans they had him list: not just Betsy Ross but also Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass! and he did so like a good little 8th-grade boy in the same sing songy tone as the rest....as if he didn't recognize all the names, which no doubt was the case. As far as spectacle, supposedly comparable to like, France, I was not impressed in the least. He makes a very poor master of ceremonies.

MAGAts said they didn't want to miss it as it was as "historical" as MLK I have a dream speech.
If MLKs was 10/10, from what you say Trump's would barely move the needle above zero.

as if he didn't recognize all the names
Of all his odious rhetorical tics, for some reason his ad lib editorial judgment delivered in sincere appreciation of a choice phrase "that's good", betraying the sure and certain truth that he is reading the speech for the first time, is one that I find the most terrifying.

now that I have had time to think back on the part I saw, all I think of is gosh that was so awful even for him, as in: embarrassing. It's almost seems like when he wants to be a grownup and intends to be respectable, he gets to sounding even more like a bratty child. He only has practice at bullying.

Frum @ The Atlantic:Trump's Recessional
The president’s speech existed only to provide a reason why he needed to stand in one place long enough for five waves of warplanes to cross the sky.

Looks to me like the big fail is sinking in, he feels the need to do the lie-to-self routine:
Not just the Russkies but there's also this Brit news. The staff faking attendance pictures just isn't cutting it for him, gotta have Trump praise Trump since nobody else will, poor baby. As per this article,The evangelical fans will olige with amen's: yes you are persecuted like Jesus, and yes, like Rodney Daingerfield, you just get no respect.
