reminds me of the story I read yesterday about Tina Turner's new memoir post-Ike's death, reminding that the wonderful swinging 60's for a wife could mean a swing upside your head just to make the nightly rape more exciting or something. Reminded me of several ladies living just like that in the 70's working as a waitress are various lunch hour hangouts, they'd be like the short order cook. They'd tell you how their bartender husband out front broke their jaw a few mos ago and now he's hitting them again. And you are just a frigging college student in a part time summer temp job and you didn't know what to say or what you could possibly do to help. It was just the way things were. Meanwhile, you sure do look at the bartender different from then on, stay out of his way.....
