related: as it says in the NYTimes I posted on directly below in this section: an intensely fluid period in American politics now underway.
THERE’S NOTHING LEFT’: WHY THOUSANDS OF REPUBLICANS ARE LEAVING THE PARTY
Voting registration data indicates a stronger-than-usual flight from the G.O.P. since the Capitol riot, with an intensely fluid period in American politics now underway.
and it is noted many of them are not registering as Dem, they are unaffiliated so far

Nikki Haley breaks with Trump: 'We shouldn't have followed him'

She's so stupid she makes things worse for herself and all Republicans, which makes it hard to do the reasonable thing. Trump only has 1 path and he's followed it/blazed it since forever. "He let us down" means "we're stupid as dogshit and couldn't see the obvious". Which rather than "yes there's enough evidence to compete" it's "holy fuck I'm too stupid to hold office I'm going to get myself to a nunnery And hope they're still accepting idiots". And multiply that across the whole party. I mean, I'd like that, but the reality is they'll just vote against conviction rather than accept an equation that makes them former followers/acolytes deluded by Potato Satan. Unless deprogramming camps can be set up across the US quicker than vaccine stations.

If you don't know the name it's big stuff like ....Olson successfully represented presidential candidate George W. Bush in the Supreme Court case Bush v. Gore, which effectively ended the recount of the contested 2000 Presidential election...

Or maybe they've been raising awareness for how messed up the Republicans are, and someone else can step up to figure out this other stuff? Or maybe they'll do it next, after impeachment is more than 3 days behind us and the first wave of insurrection trials get going? I'm pissed at the woman with the mRNA vaccine - what's she done since?

good last line, hah. Like I said on a Biden post, I've learned not to think that way, I have learned bigotry of low expectations.
another thing: We really got used to "rapid change" only because it seemed like it, but it mostly wasn't real, the rapid news cycle was because Trump was causing chaos every other hour by constantly contradicting himself, his allies, his minions and even his fans. Really, remember how they couldn't ever get him to say anything they planned with him or agreed to? It was only when he was in big trouble then they would get him to stop tweeting and being contradictory on topic and read from a prepared text, and whenever he had to do that, he did it in a sing songy voice like a grade schooler. It became hard to actually focus on what the government really was doing. It mostly didn't involve him! (i.e., how many stories on what Pompeo was up to? Not many!)

Louise Mensch got popular through "the cavalry/Mueller is coming" to create continual expectations , but as Marcy and others point out, that's not how out justice system works - it will still be exceedingly unlikely that anyone from Trump's family is charged for anything. It takes political capital, will, and a huge amount of time, even as it threatens the career of anyone involved. Easier to catch a few tiny fish and go play golf.

This really stupid rich guy Fred Eshelman is pissed about the Trumpco grift over the election challenges and is suing to get his $2 million donation back:
(Hot tip: don't invest with Eshelman Ventures, he's really stupid and doesn't research anything about money, probably the only thing he knows to do correctly is to have lawyers on retainer)
Omar has more on the "grifters using the Republican party to grift" angle:

^ note that in the article by Chait, if Dems stress the Manichean "us vs. them" (or "blue vs. red" or "good vs. evil" only two sides) division narrative, as if there are no people in the middle or outside the two categories, you help the grifters.

She's probably right, has got the polls to back it up:

out in the open, grand ole party flaming split:
as per a comment above, now waiting for the whole cause of the split to speak. How will he do it?
(does come to mind, though--this is why the Senate was created! they are supposed to be the elite grownups who keep the rabble of the populist people from having too much power.)
