Another step in the right direction?
BBC - Syria crisis: UN poised for Homs humanitarian operation
A pause in fighting to evacuate hundreds of civilians from besieged areas of the city of Homs in Syria is expected to begin on Friday. The ceasefire should also allow long-awaited aid into the worst hit areas. The UN welcomed reports that a "humanitarian pause" had been agreed with Syrian authorities. Rebels are also expected to back the deal.
---snip---
The situation in besieged districts of Homs was discussed during peace talks in Geneva a week ago. Up to 3,000 civilians are believed to be trapped by the fighting and activists say people have survived on little more than olives for weeks. Farhan Haq, spokesman for UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, said supplies were positioned on the outskirts of Homs "ready for immediate delivery as soon as the green light was given by the parties for safe passage".

Now the question is . . .
What's the next "eleventy-dimensional chess move" on the board?
Hey Jollyroger... Any ideas?

Thanks for posting this OGD. Next step IMO is baby steps. Feed and shelter the kids and other non-combatants. No simple task.

Hey Bruce... yes sir . . .
Baby steps is right. And walk real gingerly and take it slow.
I have friends here in the US who have owned the small market on our block for the past 20 years. The fella, Eddie was born and raised up to the age of 21 in Homs. Most of his family still over in the area left to Lebanon months ago. He has two cousins that remain in the area of Homs.
When Eddie was 20 he was conscripted into the Syrian army. After the massacre at Hamah in '82 he was out of there. He says that even within families there remain deep divides that have fomented since those days. He's never been back within the borders since those days.
Eddie's an excellent source for the pulse of what's going down
