His fault - why was he using email that's not secured well enough, plus the public has the right to know.

French won't even let press & websites distribute the mixed real/fake docs - what a bunch of spoil sports - that would never fly in the US.

Seated at a long table at Alice Tully ,Wednesday , the guy to my wife´s right had just come from watching the final Macron/Le Pen debate. Which he described as a clear cut Macron win. For example , he said, when responding to a question Macron´s answer always directly addressed the issue whereas her´s ,usually given after fumbling in her documents,didn´t..
Which Macron pointed out.
In 25 years of watching such encounters in connection with his ¨Government¨ classes he said (they were academics on their way to the opera) he´d never seen such a conclusive victory.
Let´s hope.

Well, there is no question who won the Clinton-trump debates. But the French see what a bufoon trump is, and they know tha LePen is almost as bad. There are a number of "Deplorables" there too. Fingers crossed.

For people who fit Trump's MO, who thought it mattered a lot, the majority thought he won the debates (by a small margin). Just remember that there are other people who seriously don't seen things like you, however reality-challenged that may make them.

Latest poll says it's 63% for Macron and 37% for Le Pen, with 89% CERTAIN of their current choice, and numbers trending in Macron's favor. So it's looking pretty solid.

They've managed to swing coverage towards the FACT of the hack and away from any salacious CONTENT. So I don't think it will affect anyone's votes.
I didn't see the debate, but friends who watched said it was the worst debate in memory, with little discussion of policy proposals. But it seems that Macron just needed to appear authoritative and assured. Which he seems to have managed.
I might just sleep soundly tonight

metadata traces the bahama offshore account documents to Russia.

The deep Reuters article on the hack:
Added to the evidence that the GRU-connected hackers are also falsifying documents, it will be interesting to see how they escalate these operations against Merkel in the German election, given that she is turning out to be Putin's new Bête Noire. Bizarre that Russia still faces no repercussions for these actions. Are Trump and Tillerson really so deep in Putin's pocket that they are fighting any suggestion of counter-measures?

To my mind....it is un-English, it is un-American, it is French
(MT)
In this day and age, it is un-American, it is un-European,, it is Russian.
What is true and what is false, what is believable and what is fantasy....
I do not have the files so to speak.
Russia is still our enemy or our competitor or whatever.
The USSR is gone but the nukes are not gone.
