As traumatic and divisive as the process can be, the time has arrived.

Why The Times Editorial Board Supports an Impeachment Inquiry
And what is an editorial board anyway?

for those interested in the Andrew Johnson impeachment, this is really good relatively short scholarly paper on it that was published in March:
COVER STORY - SPRING 2019 @ The American Scholar: The First President To Be Impeached Andrew Johnson beat the charges against him by a single vote, but what did the nation lose? by Brenda Wineapple | March 4, 2019
has this great photo as an illus. by Matthew Brady, one I had never seen

Wow, that flies in the face of whatever impressions I had.
And it (Johnson) again pushes secession as the biggest crime - treason - and not the horrid treatment of fellow men - who they still hadn't gotten around to acknowledging as such. So Reconstruction was dead within 3 years, and Grant's term was just a confirmation of the farce.
Amazing how poorly this is covered in kids' history books.

I was impressed too. But I think it's a pretty exceptional piece of work--atypically, she's an eloquent writer too, far from your basic textbook hack type. (And I love the subtle digs at the problematic lack of rigor in "Profiles in Courage".)

There are more disgusting tapes out there.

The impeachment hearings may interfere with the attention needed foe the Democratic primaries, but Pelosi had no other option.

We know about that, already posted it over here yesterday, along with the other newer leak about the Putin/Saudi calls. I think it's important to keep the context that all this stuff is coming from leakers who work inside the administration or recently left the administration and that there is a flood of it right now for some reason. I suspect it is because The Whistleblower has inspired them to act. The Whistleblower has inspired them to act because he is skilled at what he did. For one thing, he didn't alienate by chanting political partisan memes and anti-Trump rhetoric. And he didn't try to tell people what to think about what he was reporting by using descriptors like "disgusting", just simple facts, clear and concise.

Relax
Its proof that I don't read each one of your posts.

Trump called Pelosi and 5 other Democrats "savages" today. He has no idea how 'savage' things have gotten for demagogues in the past.
See Piazzale Loreto Memorial, Milan, Italy.

I saw something else interesting in that tweet, put a link to it in response to one of your comments on Cleveland's post.

Saw the Geraldo one. He apparently is not a Trump apologist.
Poor Trump, surrounded by snitches, rats, backstabbers, spies, losers and savages. Could it really just be him?
Will Trump just fire everyone in the White House, except for family? Hire a few illegals to do the cleaning?

Hah, you funny. I was just interested in getting your input on it, because you're a pretty good scholar of the political messaging. On this one, I cannot figure out yet whether this is professionally-approved talking points, or are they really just going all whiney self-pitying victimhood on us?
But then I never could get how the gambit of Dems-in-power as Nazis worked so well for them before.
Just came to mind after seeing Kissinger tweet I just posted: more towards your point: Nixon reacted the same way: paranoid, ever more isolated, fearful of everyone, cracking up....

Something I've said to a few people and I often remind myself. If you're having the same problem with lots of different people the problem is likely you.

okay, here we go, Phil Rucker on the front page of WaPo, I see I am far from alone:
Staring down impeachment, Trump sees himself as a victim of historic proportions
President Trump is not the first U.S. leader facing impeachment to nurse a sense of persecution and self-pity. But he is the first to broadcast that mentality to the world.

Again, Trump started out as rainmaker, Mr.Businessman, cure our ills.
I don't think he has half that power as "Professional Victim"

Historical analogizing can lead to strange thoughts. For example, remember Kissinger recounting Nixon really losing it one night and asking Henry to kneel and pray with him?

The Connecticut Post and The Saint Louis Post Dispatch have both called for Trump's resignation in editorials:
