I waited for the Onion piece to become funny, DF, but it never did. It simply misreads the tipping point at which low-information voters catch on to attempted satire. Some down-ticket Republican is going to be loudly denouncing this "proposal" in the next day or two, trust me.
Even if Obama handily wins the electoral vote, we're talking about voters who will have supported Romney-Ryan by 40-45%. Morons. Stupid, ignorant, incorrigible, unteachable morons. Half the fucking country. Currently, the greatest power on Earth.
Yes, it will be a great relief to the rest of us if Obama retains for four years veto power over the worst potential aberrations and abuses. But that will only slow, not stop, America's slide into the abyss.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the next four years will bring a collective awakening, a reassessment of American "values," mythology and actual place in the world. I just don't see a single sign of that.
But please do re-elect Barack Obama. It's the least you can do. The very, very least.
