Ah but the writers are presuming The Academy is quite capable of nominating a slate of best pictures.
They are not really doing hindsight 20/20 here, all they are showing is that tastes change.

Overall, I thought they put together a pretty convincing line of how the Academy screws up mostly and why. They pegged films like Forrest Gump and The Departed. My guess is the academy'll screw it up with Three Billboards this year - overrated with mindboggling glitches and over-the-top acting, in some ways similar to feel of Clay Pigeons handled much better by Juaquin Phoenix and Janeane Garofalo.
