There is little to lose in preventing Donald Trump, a man with ties to people under investigation, from appointing a wingnut to a stolen SCOTUS seat. The argument against this tactic is that the Republicans will respond by nominating someone even worse than the current nominee. The plain fact is the next wingnut will be worse. That worse nominee will happen if Democrats protest Gorsuch or if they simply roll over and let an illegitimate man in the White House have his way.
