“So, governor, again, thank very much. And we won’t say congratulations. We don’t want to do that. We don’t want to congratulate,” Trump said.
“We’ll congratulate each other when it’s all finished, but you have been terrific,”

no shelter from the storm, would like to see Melania make it to the flooded ladies' room from these bleachers in her stiletto blahniks to find toilets submerged (and no, they don't have a bidet either):

How about just taking all these folks on Air Force One back to White House? I suspect that's what President Andy Jackson would do if he was in charge today! FAKE POPULISM! should be the new cri de coeur?

What a crowd, what a turnout! Don't congratulate me until later! @realDonaldTrump

Captive or captivated, not much diff. America = spectacular, that's the thing! Best disaster evah! Yuge rainfall blows Xi's numbers away, just lost a bunch of huts and some pigs, we got the big big numbers, lost classier stuff, replace with even classier stuff, it's gonna be great and Mexico is gonna pay. (If that fails, there's always Deutsche Bank.)

Very strong feeling of major game change on live teevee as regards Houston from the oval office right now!
Melania (the mom Melania, not the model) clearly came to the rescue of her man, it's like so clear to me that she got in there, probably overnight, and lectured him about how to behave during a disaster (like a nice, caring guy, this is not a campaign, doh) because she actually gets it! Despite the Blahniks gaffe, it's clear she gets it.
On the right, he's got her standing next to him at the desk, looking very somber and sad and worried and wearing black, and Pence the prayerful carer standing next to her. And Salvation Army and Baptist charity people to the left. And he thanked her and asked her to speak and said she didn't know he was going to make her speak) and then asked Pence to say a word. And every word Trump said was kind and caring. Shocking actually! A Trump we often don't see, a different character! Even his voice was lowered, no yelling, trying to sound tender. Mixed extemporaneous remarks from notes on his desk. I would not be surprised if those notes came from Melania. Don't know how long kinder gentler Trump will last, of course, maybe just an hour, but I've got to say I truly was shocked.
Edit to add: Melania spoke like a single sentence and it didn't hit me as memorable, what hit me, now thinking about it: this is a Princess Diana persona, how sincere it is I can't tell.
