In the water is wet category in today’s news is a Harvard report documenting that White Republican Federal judges give longer sentences to black men and women than to white men and women for the same crimes.
From the study:
Even after researchers controlled for defendant and case characteristics, the Harvard study showed that 65 percent of the sentencing gap (the difference between the sentences of white convicted felons and the longer sentences of blacks) could be explained by the fact that judges nominated by Republicans sentenced black people to longer sentences:
- Overall, Republican-appointed judges give defendants an average of 2.4 months longer in prison than Democratic-appointed judges.
- The statistics show that white judges, regardless of party affiliation, give longer sentences to black offenders.
- The average black person sentenced by a Republican-appointed judge receives a sentence that is three months longer than that of a white person whose case is similar.
- Black judges generally impose shorter sentences on average than white judges, regardless of the race of the defendant.
- Republican judges give female offenders two fewer months in prison than male offenders. However, black women who were sentenced by Republican-appointed justices received longer sentences than white women sentenced by GOP-appointed justices.
- Combining all factors, white, Republican-appointed judges sentence African-American men and boys the longest jail terms of any other group.
Also
In fact, when researchers controlled for the type of offenses and the history of the offender, the prison sentences handed down by white, Republican-appointed judges to black offenders were typically longer than the sentences handed down by:
- black judges;
- Democratic-appointed judges;
- female judges;
- judges who were former prosecutors; or
- judges born in the South.
The findings are important because Republicans blocked many of Obama’s federal Court nominees. Trump has appointed exactly zero black federal judges. Of 87 pending appointees, only 1 is black. Trump is ushering in an era of biased federal judges. Sessions is going to be serving up black federal defendants to biased sentencing, continuing the common practice by white Republican federal judges.

That's not the worst.
Republicans are ending any civil rights investigations of our 15,000+ separate and distinct police departments.
The Obama administration DOJ report, which led to upheaval at the Ferguson PD found:
Additionally,
“Our investigation found instances in which the court charged $302 for a single Manner of Walking violation; $427 for a single Peace Disturbance violation; $531 for high Grass and Weeds; $777 for Resisting Arrest; and $792 for Failure to Obey, and $527 for Failure to Comply, which officers appear to use interchangeably,” the Justice Department found.
Plus Carson is ending civil rights enforcement, and slashing funding for federal housing assistance.

Trump supporters are OK with this crap. Seeing Trump at the microphone with the Marine Band at his side and behind reminded me of a dictator. We have to Republicans out while we still can.
