The good enough President

Our first child was autistic or to use the preferred characterization " a person with autism". The help available to us was considerably worse than useless. It was advice from Freudians-most of whom probably meant well-but whose underlying theory was so wrong that their suggestions could only be- not just of no use -but bound to make matters worse.

In the 60s that begin to change and in the forefront of those with changed views was a Brit psychologist  named Winnicott  who coined the useful phrase "The good enough mother".

As opposed to the Freudians- whose core belief was that a child became a person with autism because of its mother's failure- Winnicott said that most mothers do a " good enough" job. And that included  most mothers  whose child was a person with autism.. They too did a good enough job in an impossible situation. But their child disappeared into the world of autism anyway.

To put  it simply:  Winnicott was right and the thousands of Freudians -who had spent the preceding two decades trying to provide advice- were wrong. The mothers  they criticized were good enough mothers.

But not everyone was good enough. They weren't good enough shrinks!

Reading Hal's comments on  Hillary's campaign  reminds me of those pre-Winnicott days.  If the mother of a person with autism says something , anything e.g. "The sun rises in the East" it must be wrong because she said it. Let's look west to see the sun rise.

If Hillary believes that before we announce a plan to help with the "migrants"  we need to discuss what that plan will be- well that must  be wrong , because she said it.

Sure there are things Hillary  says that I disagree with. And maybe I'm right. Or -more likely-maybe she's right. What matters is this: What do I think she would do as President? Would she be a good enough President:? And would I prefer what President Hillary would do compared to what President Trump, or Jindall or Lord-knows-who would do.?

If you watched or read about the two Republican debates, you realize te gross stupidity any Democratic President will face from the opposition. Last night Donald Trump suggested a link between vaccines and autism. Multiple studies debunk this myth. There is no need to space out vaccines. Two gentleman with M.D. degrees were onstage an did not use  science to quash the fear that Donald Trump was creating in viewers. Even the best educated ib the GOP are stupid.

Carly Fiorina railed about a living fetus with a beating heart waiting for death at the hands of Planned Parenthood so that the brain could be harvested. Planned Parenthood does not harvest organs. The tapes done by the GOP-linked anti-abortion group is known to be doctored. We d not know where the tape of the fetus originated. Republicans are liars.

Democratic Presidents will have to overcome Republican stupidity and lies to get Progressive legislation passed. That will be good enough for me.

Good enough for me too. Thanks.

    Great point.

Keep in mind that Sanders will have a long list of supporters to email for help even if he remains a senator.  He is a strong asset even in loss.

That will be good enough for me.

I called Carly Fiorina a liar and noted that Planned Parenthood does not dissect fetuses. My statement was made based upon the belief that Fiorina's story about a fetus with a beating heart was true. I was duped. The controversial videos contain no such scene.

Fiorina was made aware of the lie and she doubles down on the lie and she doubles down saying that she saw the nonexistent videotape.

I amend my statement. Fiorina' is not a liar. She is a pathologic liar.

To some extent I am more critical of her handling of this issue than of Trump's.

He's something of a joke so his comment on autism and vaccines is just more of the same.

Unlike some of the comments that Fiorina was incompetent as the CEO of HP I think she sufficiently  proved her competence by just  getting to that level. And  I have no doubt that before making her damaging allegations against  Planned Parenthood she had someone from her campaign review information such as  rmrd0000 linked to above.

Personally rather than joining rmr0000's  assessment of her as a pathological liar I think that she is a well informed , cool headed operator who has demonstrated that she will  deliberately choose to  lie because it suited her purpose..

Frankly I think the Republicans could do  better altho I hope they don't
