    Real Intent

I sure you've heard of the U.N.'s vote on possible engagement in the Libyan Civil War. As you know the vote is happening as I type. I'm also sure you know the reasoning behind this action. It of course has very little to do with just Libya; this is the beginning of the quest for Africa and all her wealth.
The race against the Chinese for the riches in this country was inevitable. Our seeming interest to intervene in the name of democracy and freedom, it's nothing less than a ploy to get our foot in the door. While we want them to embrace democracy and not possibly go the route of communism via the Chinese, our true goal is undoubtedly resources, both material and human. While it would seem we want to bring freedom to their lands, it will be a ploy to gain control, set up puppet regimes and exploit the land and the populace.
In the mean time the unrest and uncertainty is sure to unsettle the markets, most notably having the effect of further rising the cost of oil. How all this plays out remains to be seen, but to be sure this will be the start of further turmoil in our world. To the victor go the spoils and you can bet our government will be in there pitching much to the dismay of it's people. The added costs in many areas will continue to weigh heavily on our already bowed backs.
All this is not unlike the colonization of the western world during the period 1500-1700. And while the reasoning for the actions taken during that period were varied, the goal here is mostly two fold; control and riches.
Sorry about the cynicism but I feel this to be the first chapter in a very long book I call, "The Grab for the African Golden Ring."

Democracy and Liberty have nothing to do with diplomacy, I am afraid.
