    Obama! A Modern US President

This musical Obama spoof produced by Ronnie Butler is a take-off from Gilbert and Sullivan's Penzance's 'Model of a Modern Major General'.  It really has something fro everyone, from the most ardent supporters to critics; the tongue-in-cheek self-mockery makes me wish Obama had something to do with it.

Cruising the web to find its origin was great: there were so many different takes on it, and interpretations of it.  Be sure to include your own; I just know I love it!

    POLITICAL FELONS

    File:Hunt12.jpg

A bunch of academics got together at Berkely, believe it or not to discuss the social ramifications of the new Tea Party Movement. http://www.slate.com/id/2272097/

You know sociologists as well as a good portion of academics specializing in psychology really enjoy algebra:

Where is the Tea Party on this one?

This is an article from Salon.com related to the detention of the reporter in Alaska at the behest of the GOP senatorial candidate, Joe Miller.  I thought the Tea Party was against fascism?  I thought they were against communists?  Well, okay, handcuffing someone to a chair is not part of communist ideals, but it comports very well with the practices of the former Soviet Union, an allegedly communist regime.  Personally, it was more of what you get when you only have one party in control.

10 Questions for The Tea Party

Ralph Nader posses ten questions to the Tea Party people. I wonder just how many of them can truthfully answer them. Assuming of course they can read.

Broken promises in a broken country

Everyday we have to listen to this garbage:

The stimulus didn't create jobs. The President should have concentrated on jobs before tackling health care. "Obamacare" means that the government will take over health care, tell you which doctors you can go to, and will destroy our freedom. The President is a socialist.

    Secret Document Frago 242 Wiki-leaked

Wikileaks documents released Friday evening to The Guardian, UK, The New York Times, Der Spiegel and Le Monde are full of revelations that are being underplayed by MSM as ‘not revelatory’.  Don’t be fooled.  They include documents showing that the DoD had previously lied, but actually was keeping track of civilian deaths after a fashion; that there were far more killings of civilians by Blackwater employees and US soldiers than reported; that Iran was funding Shiite combatants (known already), and reports of death squads operating under Nouri Al-Mali

For Those Who Think That a Smart Right-Winger Might Be REALLY Smart: Ginny Thomas Part 2

My first OPEN THREAD referred to Virginia Thomas, because I didn't feel that it was appropriate to refer to "Ginny," as she is known by all who love her.  Now, I think I know her really well, but I still definitely don't love her. I just prefer to call her "Ginny," because my mother was named Virginia and she hated the name GINNY.

    should not have been fired.

With respect to his fear when he sees someone in traditional muslim garb board his plane, that seems like an honest observation. Should he have said it pleases him?

With respect to his comment that we are at the beginning of a long lasting conflict with a militant muslim movement, that seems like a widely shared geopolitical judgement(Not mine BTW) rather than bias against a particular group.

    BECKERHEAD, THE HUMANZEE

          GLENN BECK'S HIGH SCHOOL PICTURE

How many people believe in evolution in this country?"

Beck went on to say that he didn't know the answer, because he's "not God" and, consquently, doesn't know "how God creates," but he thought that it was "ridiculous" to think that we "came from monkeys...

I've had the subversive , or maybe utopian , thought

that if the Tarp hadn't saved the banks there'd be nobody to send out the eviction notices. Everyone could just remain in their homes. And now they were no longer under water it would be worth spending  money fixing them up which would generate employment for the companies making cleaning supplies and appliances. Putting people back to work.

And we'd finally redistribute  wealth back to 1952 levels.

We had greatness thrust upon us.....And we ducked.

Don't Worry, People Will Lose Their Homes!

I know you're all very concerned that some people who should lose their homes won't or that they won't lose their homes in a timely enough fashion.  Don't worry.  People will be homeless.  Our banks and government will see to it that miscreants are punished.  The Market, wronged deity that it is, will not be mocked.  It demands justice and homelessness.

    Bad Medicine

Well this is interesting but not to surprising. According to this article from AFP, it seems that health care is the reason our longevity in this country is now well below the rest of the developed world.

Open Thread on the Virginia Thomas / Anita Hill Incident

Has anyone except me wondered why Virginia Thomas called Professor Hill's office at 7am on a weekend and left a recorded message for all to hear (and parse)? If she had just called and spoken to her she could actually claim that she had extended an olive branch, and it would have been her word against Hill's. Her recorded words completely refute her stated reason for the call; after all, an olive branch doesn't usually include an accusation of perjury.

    Martin Wolf in today's FT

Who can now confidently state that reliance on a policy which worked by financing overpriced housing was better than using surplus savings for higher public investment? Similarly, who can confidently  state that it must be be better to rely on relaunching a private credit boom than on higher public investment.

    God...in Pencil

When I listen to Martin Luther King, Jr. speak, I can believe in God.  There may be other times I have, but I can’t remember them.  In discussions about belief or not, I’ve heard people say that their personal stories have been determinant.  A lot of them include hitting some emotional or spiritual bottom, and hearing a message from God, then being reborn in some state that exemplifies grace, along with which comes both a knowledge of, and a belief in, God; sort of a personal relationship.

    Fresh Eyes

Former Republican stillidealistic wrote, in Genghis's To Vote or Not to Vote thread:

I am not thrilled with the dems. This party is more dysfunctional than I ever would have imagined. Someone commented that keeping the dems in line is like herding cats, and then there's the old "I'm not a member of an organized political party, I'm a democrat." Both statements are sadly true.
