The two budget plans before us and the question of priorities and fair play

So, are we going to sit back and have our health compromised? Seems there's a good chance this will happen, and it all  depends on the outcome of the next election. Depending on which party gets in, one of two philosophies will dictate which agenda is bestowed upon us.

If the Right Wing gets in it will mean the privatization of Medicare. Vouchers will be used instead of pay by need. These vouchers are to be used by the recipient to buy his own health coverage. Of course the vouchers will not cover the whole cost of the policy, with the recipients part being estimated at up to $6000. This plan by Paul Ryan will cut the deficit by a goodly amount over 10 years, but will also destroy the medical safety net. For one thing many people will not have the $6000 to covet the additional cost. Second, you will now be dealing with for profit entities who you'll have to fight to get the care you need. This plan basically cuts the budget on the backs of the old and the poor. There is no mention of getting any income into the budget by cutting defense or raising taxes on the rich, who have had massive tax cuts in the recent past; a big reason will find ourselves with this problem. They could at least let the Bush tax cut expire. These cuts have cost us dearly in lost income to the government and will continue to do so. The loss in capital gains taxes alone is quite massive and will continue to grow as long as the market continues to climb. The Right Wing has been gunning for the entitlements for years, and now has justification to abolish them. Vote Right Wing and say good-bye to your health care safety net..

The Left Wing on the other hand wants to do some cost cutting also, but temper it with incoming revenue by letting the Bush cuts expire, closing many corporate tax loop holes, going after offshore tax havens, and incurring savings on interest payments resulting from the smaller debt. Their plan, though cutting the entitlements some, in no way hands them over to the private sector as does the plan of the Right. These entitlements are a promise to the American public and have been paid  for on a weekly basis with the deductions you've see taken out of your paycheck. And to boot, if the government had not raided these funds over the years, I probably would not be sitting here venting my frustration over the thievery that has a good chance of changing life as we have known it for the past 45 years here in America.

Well, it will all be decided in November of 2012. What you'll be voting on is more or less the Role of Government. The main question you'll be answering is this. Is this role to, PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE, by in part by allowing the continued implementation of safety nets; or is it's role to ignore the needs of a great many and leave them to the mercy of a Darwinist Society?  The choice is yours my friends. May God help us make the right choice !
