The usual, ineffective rant in knee-jerk response to another shooting incident ...

    Hi.  Again.

Well, it happened again.  Just like we knew it would.   We will cry and make statements like:
"No-one needs an AK47.  It is a military weapon designed to kill people as quickly and efficiently as possible.  That is it's only purpose.  It is not a gun used for target practice or to hunt for food or protect one's home and hearth.  It is a killing weapon.  Period.   F*ck the NRA.  F*ck Everyone that supports the NRA.   If you are an NRA member, you support the Death of Innocents.  Their blood is forever on you."

And those words, and this blog, like all the words and blogs written on this subject in the last 30 years will be for naught.  They will all dissolve into the breeze of a Summer day.

Because a Pro-Guns Advocacy Group spends millions of dollars to lobby effectively and silence all opposition.

We are a shameful silent majority.

    Comments

Trump will make the issue to be about Muslims.

Guaranteed. Now, not only will he want to prevent Muslims from entering the country, he'll want to deport those who are already here, regardless if they were born here or not.

Oh, it's already much worse than that.

    "Thoughts and prayers".

Ugh!  Will there ever be a "journalist" who will confront an NRA-backing Congressman when they spout this pablum?  I doubt it.

"And those words, and this blog, like all the words and blogs written on this subject in the last 30 years will be for naught.  They will all dissolve into the breeze of a Summer day."

I went the whole day without crying, and now this.  Every time something like this happens I have hopes that this next tragedy will be the horror that finally brings us to our senses.  The power lies in us, not them.  This is an election year. No time for silence now.  We know we can be loud.  Let's see HOW loud.

I nope you're right, Ramona.  I fear the volume of our voices will be drowned out by the feckless compliance of politicians that fear being attacked by the political assault of the NRA.

I'm tired of the tears of all humanity being for naught.  I'm tired the world makes me cry so often.   I'm sad there is so little hope that this problem can ever be addressed and solved.   I'm sad for the lives that were lost, and the lives that will, in a very short while, be added to the list of those lost to gun violence.

I resist the idea that we must live in a time of perpetual grief.

Sanders made comments about the Orlando shooting in which he expressed condolences to the victims---and then, gratuitously, said,

"It goes without saying that ISIS must be defeated."

Is Sanders just seriously off the rails?

He just played the Trump card.

So what's he playing at? Third party run?

Bernie, just concede and get the hell out of here before you embarrass yourself further.

    (Apologies, Smith, I'm lashing out).

Ramadan and LGBT Pride Month are being celebrated simultaneously. The biggest target for ISIS is Muslims. We have to wage a fight that supports Homosexuals but does not target Muslims. Those sentiments are note in the provided link.

Thanks. I may be a little off kilter right now as lightening struck the house next door in Dallas last night and set it on fire---five fire trucks responded, lost air conditioning, etc. Pretty nerve racking.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I haven't read Sanders statement, but I agree their are forces around that will use terrorism focused on the LGBT community to vilify Muslims. Both the shooter and his father seem to have mental issues.

News filtering by the New York Times.

Telegraph, UK, current large font headline:

"Gays should be punished by God, not those on earth" Orlando gunman's father issues statement...

The NYT filters out that God (Allah) stuff out, the Dad says:

“I don’t know what caused this,” said Mr. Mateen, speaking in Dari, a language spoken in Afghanistan. “I did not know and did not understand that he has anger in his heart.”

CBS had the same Telegraph quote on God punishing gays, and more about Dad from CBS:

In his Facebook videos, the alleged gunman's father has often appeared wearing a military uniform and declaring himself the leader of a "transitional revolutionary government" of Afghanistan.

If you want the unfiltered news, UK press is more reliable.

I guess the NYT is engaging in irritating fact withholding 'political correctness' in not reporting the father, a Muslim, believes God will punish gays. Of course, if Pat Robertson said that (again?), it would be reported, but no one would be surprised.
