Thanks, C. It was Washington's blog that I found both my original links. Yves often carries his posts, and washington sometimes posts the Anthony Freda anti-war/pro-justice artwork I use on some of my diaries. He's a good guy, and sends me his new work now for possible (I guess you'd say) collaboration. The NYT used one recently; pretty cool for him!

Washingtonsblog: he has been all over events and dangers at Fukushima.

Stunningly sad and frightening, Obe. I'm pretty sure the figures don't include the many sole proprietors who attempt to 'innovate' their own jobs, either. And get punished for their sins thru the tax code and SS.

There isn't a chart you see any more that has any good news for us, but plenty of corporate profits, like alcoa and cheveron (hey, Condi!). I do wonderr what talk happens in the Oval Office: do they even care any longer about re-election, if not the welfare of Americans?

That so many believe the next bubble will soon burst is at least realistic, I guess. No one will be able to call it a Black Swan event. Did you see Geithner just exempted all the foreign currency swaps fron regulation under Dodd-Frank? Fuck. What a tool.

On the lighter side, gas prices here (I know, Europe has been more realistic) are almost at $4. Yves Smith posted some cartoons. Like this one.

This chart showing the portion of the population that has jobs tells it all:

Full employment is around 64% of the population employed (as seen in 2000). We've now been stuck at 58% for the last two years, with not much of a sign of improvement. Those six percentage points amounts to about 18 million people who want jobs and don't have them. And that isn't counting all the millions who have only part-time jobs and want full-time work.

There is no sign that those jobs are coming back, nor that the administration even intends to do ... anything ... to try.

On top of that, you have this:

57 percent of Americans think the worst of the economic crisis is yet to come — a stunning 18-point increase since January and the highest in at least seven months.

And they're probably right.
