While I don't think that "walking out" of the Democratic party is helpful, the last thing that would've occurred to me is that it's racially motivated. No, this happens every time the Democrats get some power (at least every time in my lifetime). Heck, I voted for Dole in '96. So while I disagree with the approach (right now, at least), I agree that for the mast majority of Democrats it's got nothing to do with race.

I believe that that could be parsed as meaning exactly what I intended to say but I also recognize that it was poor wording because the meaning is a bit ambiguous. I should have said that they cheered that we got what they "thought" we deserved. If you thought I meant that the victims in the towers actually deserved it then I hope you will accept my correction and apology for writing something that could be interpreted that way. . If you still conclude that I hate my country you can go screw yourself.

What percentage of people in the Western world, hell, probably the world over, are not going to see any difference between a hijacking of civilian planes and using them to kill several thousand innocent people going about their daily lives, and the targeted killing of a single individual largely responsible for that mass murder? Are you so far gone with hatred of this country that you really can't see a difference yourself?

It's been great this week watching people who condemned Bush for not killing bin Laden condemn Obama for doing it. That is a gross mischaracterization of most criticisms I have seen raised as to the propriety of the action. Can you name a significant public voice that says we should not have gone after Ossama or who said that we should not have killed him under any circumstances? How about here at Dagblog? Some argue that if he could have been brought back alive that it was not right to shoot him in the head. What has not been so great for me has been for more than two years before now, before Ossama was killed, watching people excuse and apologize for Obama when he commits the same crimes that Bush did. I have really never seen such silliness, double standard bullshit.
The most fun has been the hand wringing over the celebrations that erupted among young folks who happened to be out Sunday night. Are you all devotees of American exceptionalism? How about us that are not devotees of American exceptionalism, but wish there was such a thing, pointing out that the the celebrations were very uncool, just like it was pointed out after 9/11 how uncool it was that in some parts of the world people cheered that we got what we deserved.
