I reckon that is why I put more faith in a persons actions than in their words. Bradlee Dean can gas all he wants about President Obama's choice of religion, but in the end, the president and his family attend Christian services so that action convinces me Dean is wrong.

Or maybe it is the interpretaion of words that is at fault. What is said is not always what is heard. It's a short trip to crazy if one thinks about it too much.

I truly do not know.

I'm just glad I didn't have to do the Rapture thing yesterday. The guy is good, and for anyone with a kid in school I would check it out, he has scores of videos on math, which can help you teach your kid math when the teacher doesn't. We are now fighting the second go-around with all the same bad teachers my first kid had in a public HS. They are still there years later.

A teacher who doesn't teach might be one who doesn't grade or return homework the same or the next day, or even return it before the test on the chapters involved. A fundamental truth of education is homework doesn't do any good without timely feedback. Another bad teacher is one who misgrades tests and marks correct answers wrong (after you have taught your kid the stuff, they get it marked wrong, you have to monitor a lazy teacher in addition to teaching your kid). There are endless examples.

Has anybody here ever seen a school with a published manual, or a section in the Student Handbook on TEACHER responsibilities to students (beyond the BS Mission Statement), with specifics, like grading homework on time (or at all)? Forget it, it probably isn't there. If your kid has a bad teacher (there are lots) get them out of the class into the good teacher's class, or you might try out the Khan website (mentioned in the Huff link in the main post by Richard) for help and good instruction videos on math for your student.

See this New Yorker article on how it is impossible to get of of incompetent teachers in NYC. A quote from it: One school principal has said that Randi Weingarten, of the teachers’ union,“would protect a dead body in the classroom.”

Sun, 22 May 2011 15:51:48 +0000 NCD comment 121243 at http://dagblog.com Well Barth, to tell ya the http://dagblog.com/comment/121222#comment-121222
In reply to Again, you hit it out of the

Well Barth, to tell ya the truth with my team in the cellar, I kind of gave up on baseball this year.

But Harmon died a week ago and I loved him dearly!

Sun, 22 May 2011 13:07:12 +0000 Richard Day comment 121222 at http://dagblog.com Well best to you too http://dagblog.com/comment/121221#comment-121221
In reply to Love what is good, hate what

Well best to you too Resistance!

And thanks for the links!

Sun, 22 May 2011 13:00:54 +0000 Richard Day comment 121221 at http://dagblog.com Love what is good, hate what http://dagblog.com/comment/121216#comment-121216
In reply to LINGUISTICS

Love what is good, hate what is bad.

There is always hope that some will wake up before it's too late DD,

When our bad leaders; religous, political and commercial finally face justice and justice is meted out

Revelations is the " I told you so" moment

"V" for

VINDICATION

Thanks for the Tiger Liilies link

After "Revelations" song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvX_5ym_ajI

Best to you Richard

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXARdPb4YBs&feature=related

Sun, 22 May 2011 12:14:06 +0000 Resistance comment 121216 at http://dagblog.com Again, you hit it out of the http://dagblog.com/comment/121214#comment-121214
In reply to LINGUISTICS

Again, you hit it out of the park (but who cares about baseball?)

Sun, 22 May 2011 12:08:30 +0000 Barth comment 121214 at http://dagblog.com hahahahahahNo you are a http://dagblog.com/comment/121200#comment-121200
In reply to Well as long as I'm not

hahahahahah

No you are a romantic

Sun, 22 May 2011 05:44:50 +0000 Richard Day comment 121200 at http://dagblog.com
