I'm thinking once again of the Dem leadership's decision in december not to raise the debt ceiling during the lame duck session. Instead of trading a tax cut for a hike in the debt ceiling they traded a tax cut for a tax cut, remember? And the reasoning was, they wanted the GOP to take responsibility for spending cuts. So I'm judging those actions on the basis of ... those actions.

If you think that was a smart decision, and by implication that spending cuts are needed, good for you. If you on the other hand are saying Dem centrists would have voted against raising the debt ceiling if asked to in December, you're bonkers. But let's not pretend the Democratic party leadership actually opposes spending cuts. You don't hand Boehner a loaded gun and then get to complain about what he 'forces' you to do.

Sat, 11 Jun 2011 12:56:07 +0000 Cho comment 123911 at http://dagblog.com So you're going to judge the http://dagblog.com/comment/123902#comment-123902
In reply to Maybe the morning grouch

So you're going to judge the action of those Dems based on the overall actions of all Dems? This is the kind of, pardon my french, crap that keeps us from moving forward. If the Dems are going to have something remotely close to a majority, they are going to have to include those who are closer to the repubs than the socialists. (AND HERE WE GO) Your ILK want a party where there is ideological purity. God forbid if there are those who don't toe the party line. If they don't we're doomed. Maybe, just maybe, we can accept a victory as part of the baby step forward and build on it, rather than dissing it because not everyone within the BIG TENT agrees.

Sat, 11 Jun 2011 08:22:56 +0000 Elusive Trope comment 123902 at http://dagblog.com Maybe the morning grouch http://dagblog.com/comment/123900#comment-123900
In reply to Senate Dems Sign Letter to Block Medicaid Cuts

Maybe the morning grouch talking, but 'gonads'? Really?

Only 41 dems can be bothered even to pretend opposing a de facto repeal of the only worthwhile part of the Health Care bill - Medicaid expansion. The other 12 don't even want to be on record as defenders of Medicaid. Wow. That's a bit pathetic.

Of course they'll cave. They handed the GOP the debt-ceiling card back in december for a reason. They want cuts as well, they just want republican cover for 'em.

Sat, 11 Jun 2011 04:59:46 +0000 Cho comment 123900 at http://dagblog.com It's a letter alerting the http://dagblog.com/comment/123899#comment-123899
In reply to and exactly 82, and not one

It's a letter alerting the Prez. "Our constituents don't want this! Get it? We get it (we think)."

Wow; sounds like an 80s tune by Los Lobos: "Eighty-one cojones strong".

Hell; let's hear some Los Lobos:

Sat, 11 Jun 2011 03:32:56 +0000 we are stardust comment 123899 at http://dagblog.com and exactly 82, and not one http://dagblog.com/comment/123897#comment-123897
In reply to You mean they might have

and exactly 82, and not one more, it would seem...

Sat, 11 Jun 2011 02:51:27 +0000 jollyroger comment 123897 at http://dagblog.com You mean they might have http://dagblog.com/comment/123893#comment-123893
In reply to Senate Dems Sign Letter to Block Medicaid Cuts

You mean they might have actually grown some gonads ?
