Romney has refused to repudiate RomneyCare and refused to sign the pro-life pledge.

I think he's banking on a weak field in the primaries...and laying the ground work for the general.

If he gets elected, I predict he'll come to be seen as a bulwart against Baggerdom and moderate Republicans will emerge from the woodwork and throw off the burden of having to pretend they are more extreme than they are. He will be seen as the greater moderator that Obama hoped to be.

"Right" and "left" are relative terms whose meaning changes over time. As far as I can see, the WHOLE country has pretty much moved rightward.

So now "centrist" means "in the center of a generally right-leaning pack."

Romney is only a centrist because everyone else has moved much further to the right.

Interesting because it's written by Mitt Romney's economic advisor, seemingly signaling that Romney is staking out a position as moderate centrist.
