Reinforcing levee's doesn't cure the problem of flooding ... you need to dissipate the waters way before the become an issue downstream.

Seems to me Obama and the Democrats have done nothing more than toss sandbags on top of every issue rather than wade in and figure out what real issues are causing problems and what steps would be necessary to fix them and what the cost to the taxpayer would be.

As for the debt itself, seems we all are living in a pipe dream. There needs to be frank discussions with both Congress, the White House as well as the public just how big it is and what it will cost to sustain the current level of legislation or loss of services to the public . Given the choice of paying more in taxes or loosing access to such programs as social security, Medicare, Medicaid, head-start and so forth I think a significant majority would prefer to pay more taxes to keep those programs running. Better to let the public vote on those issues rather than allow a congress critter to make a decision solely based on the whims of their largest campaign contributors.

And Congress needs to explain why they passed so much unfunded legislation that ran up the deficit in the first place too. And I'm not accepting ... it was that other guy from the other Party I defeated who did it - it goes with the territory ... you wanted the job so you better be prepared to suck it up and take the heat regardless.

Tue, 02 Aug 2011 12:36:43 +0000 Beetlejuice comment 129717 at http://dagblog.com
