What about the Democrats actually setting on the Committee, and the Democratic Caucuses in both the House and Senate. Don't they deserve some responsibility in ensuring the discourse and path of the negotiations aren't one-sided?

I doubt that this will play out as Soderman predicts, unfortunately.

Question: Who in Washington has the most to lose if the automatic cuts set in?

A president responsible for slashing Medicare and the military will have a tough time getting re-elected, so guess who's going to be most desperate to make a deal happen?

Since desperation is not an asset when it comes to brinkmanship negotiations--a talent that Obama has not shown much aptitude for in the first place--he may well get spanked much harder than he did the first time round.

Excellent reading material ! Thanks for the link too! So the debt ceiling debate was a prelude to an even greater debate where the GOPer's are automatically on the loosing side. It will be interesting to watch, however, since they've tasted the bitter fruit of hostage taking and liked it, I'll be waiting to see who their next hostage will be.
