So am I. But the question isn’t the goal we seek – the question is how to reach it.

Gaining international recognition that a group has a right to be a nation is not a substitute for negotiating with the people who you are at war with. The proposed change has bearing upon what kind of war it will be in the future, not the imposition of a process that settles the question of sovereignty for the parties from the outside.

The last Balkan war and the European component of the adventures in Afghanistan and Iraq are evidence enough that the United Nations is in a war when they send people to fight in it and not in a war when they choose not to engage. There is no way that other people are going to fight any part of the Israel/Palestine conflict for them. It just will never happen.

So I disagree with the above quoted statement. There is no generic shared idea, among all the people who have power or don't, about what a two-state solution might look like in real time.

Thu, 22 Sep 2011 01:21:18 +0000 moat comment 134733 at http://dagblog.com Here's what Josh Marshall http://dagblog.com/comment/134725#comment-134725
In reply to OBAMA ON ISRAEL/PALESTINE AND THE AMERICAN VISION AT THE UN

Here's what Josh Marshall says:

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2011/09/everyone_is_now_in_a.php?ref=fpblg

Wed, 21 Sep 2011 19:51:15 +0000 acanuck comment 134725 at http://dagblog.com I could not have said it http://dagblog.com/comment/134696#comment-134696
In reply to OBAMA ON ISRAEL/PALESTINE AND THE AMERICAN VISION AT THE UN

I could not have said it better myself!

I know it's easy and often justified to chastise the president. But to this Jewish voter who will be arguing in favor of Obama to folks on the right and the left of him for the next 14 months, I am pleased with what he has said here. And, once again, I do believe that President Obama get's it, and not because Bibi Netanyahu or AIPAC told him to get it.

Wed, 21 Sep 2011 16:29:57 +0000 Bruce Levine comment 134696 at http://dagblog.com
