I read it elsewhere, but don't remember where. I did check DNS and the domain does have his name on it. That is, he owns the domain ihatethemarinecorps.com and he is a software engineer; so I think it's a trustworthy report. You could also look at the DNS yourself, if you want confirmation. I also suspect the story I read is available via search engines.

Oh, wait; I'm having a WTF moment here and yes, I did screw up.

Here's how: I read that Olsen started ihatethemarinecorps.com; searching for that, I found ihatetheusmc.com that had Scott Olsen's name in the article you cite; and from there, it was straight into a reading comprehension fale: I did not look at my address bar.

My apologies for the error; and BTW: the site appears to be completely unavailable at either ihatethemarinecorps.com or www.ihatethemarinecorps.com.

The site is certainly interesting to me as are the cross links; thanks for the referral. Not the least of which many of the comments remind me of my greatest-generation father's opinion of his forced service in the army at the end of WWII. (And some of them are lol funny to boot.)

I am glad to know there are sites like that out there that kids might find before heeding a recruiter's siren call. (On the other hand, there is always this problem at the back of my mind when I think like that: if it ever came to be that no decent sane folks ever sign up for a volunteer military, we'd have a bunch of knuckle-dragging bulllies making up our military. That's always the best argument for a draft or required service.)

A question for you, though. How do you know the site was "started by Scott Olsen"? In the "Blog" section, I noticed there is an October 28 entry on him:

that reports on him in the third person and doesn't sound like he has anything to do with the site. Asking because a site that espouses such controversial opinions about military service is not something that should be attributed to someone unless it's very clear that it is the case. Sometimes vets in certain anti-war movements are still very proud of their military branch, it's not always the case that they are as unhappy as many of the folks responding there.
