As it turned out, Andy Murray played only one match, losing to David Ferrer for the first time, and pulled out with an injury. Janko Tipsarevic replaced him.

Rafael Nadal barely beat Mardy Fish, but lost to Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and thus didn't make it into the semifinals. Fish went 0-3.

Novak Djokovic beat Tomas Berdych, but lost to both Ferrer and Tipsarevic, so he didn't make it to the semifinal, either. So none of the top three made the semis and the three gluten-free players won only one match between them.

World #4 Federer went 3-0 into the semifinals, where he defeated 2-1 David Ferrer. In the other semi, 2-1 Tsonga defeated 2-1 Berdych. Federer defeated Tsonga in a three-setter, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3.
