Ah. I never did get the reasons for closing the cafe. Could be because there really wasn't a good reason. It's but a distant memory now, and since G and A were good enough to figure out how to import our old posts it's as if we took the fixtures and left the shell behind.

And there are folks who will not go to Walmart and see if the product is on the shelf...they call on the number given and hand out their credit cards ending up paying more than three times what the commercial says they will pay--sometimes more.

One message I would give at any SS Office, welfare office, disability office--do not purchase anything on TV with a credit card.

But all this crap comes under an era of RICO and these people should be arrested and charged and all of their assets taken.

And I also include those corporations involved in shipping and handling....not the poor folks who handle the phones but those who run these programs.

Richard, thank you for writing about that evil gnome, Kevin Trudeau. I'm with you and Mr. Smith. Why are those people allowed to sell their snake oil on TV? Are there no rules at all about lying, cheating and stealing?

There is nothing innocent about what they're doing and it can be damaging both to mind and body. I realize it's the American way to make money off of other people's misery but will we ever get to the point where we put a stop to it? Kevin T. has already been put out of business a couple of times but there he is, still trying to convince the gullible that it's the government, not him, that is evil.

Nothing stops them. They have no fear, no shame and no reason to stop doing what they're doing.

It is humorous when a middle class idiot orders a book for $19.95 plus S&H and ends up with a bill for $70.00 and a worthless book or two.

But it is not funny when someone in despair with an incurable disease is taken to the cleaners by one of these shiftless pricks.

How the DOJ has not grabbed and put Trudeau in prison and taken all his assets away is beyond me.

Of course, the same could be said of a thousand folks making millions on Wall Street!

You're right. Too often we only focus on the bad kind of obsession, not the kind that makes greatness ala Tiger Woods or Ted Williams. (I agree, by the way, with your opinion of Williams. I was lucky enough to spend five years living in West Hartford, CT, in the mid-Fifties, which meant I was halfway between the Yankees and the Red Sox. I could root for the Yankees who were winning all the time, but still go with my friends on trips to Fenway Park and see Ted Williams play.

As for Kevin Trudeau and all those slimy bastards of the infomercials, I loathe them. I got onto the internet in 1995 and have been running an online support group for people with my form of arthritis (Ankylosing Spondylitis) ever since. AS can be a devastating disease, destroying people's self-image as it fuses their necks and spines and takes away the range of motion in their joints. So ... imagine having to deal with a serious change in your life due to a chronic, degenerative, irreversible disease.

Then imagine having to deal with sales-people posing as fellow Spondylitis patients, who join your support group just so they could tell us that they've found a cure for your disease, and offering anecdotal praise for how well the product worked for them, and encouraging you to buy this miracle cure from them. How devastated would you be when, out of your desperation, you buy the product and it doesn't work for you? These hucksters have no souls. They prey on the desperation of people who have serious chronic diseases and sell them false hope. And I believe that false hope is, without a doubt, the cruelest thing in the universe.

You're right too that Kevin Trudeau's whole spiel is based on a GOP world view, that says you should distrust the government. Complete Baloney, but it also feeds off people's wanting to have a magical cure for whatever ails them and the oft-repeated (by Republicans) meme that all government is bad, so they must be keeping the cures from you...
