Yeah, I just stumbled on the fact that Rio+20 was happening. There is a lot of information at their website on what is being done globally to confront things like access to clean drinking water. So there is some optimism. Back in '92, the Earth Summit was a big deal - the world governments had never been so openly addressing the imploding environment. At the same time, there is the political squabbling between those who agree we need to become more sustainable in our development - which one would expect with the give and take inherent in adjusting our ways of life to become more sustainable.

But there are those who just don't even want to talk about it, who in essence are saying - I don't care if we are living in an unsustainable manner. The only alternative to that would be to believe the current level of poverty, deforestation, etc is sustainable, which would make them idiots in my book. And if nothing was at stake, we could just let them go on their deluded merry way. But everything is stake. How to get through to these folks?

Because it isn't just things like global warming policy on the federal level that are impacted. The resistance is occurring at the local level - where someone trying to ensure that there isn't excessive shoreline erosion is blocked in order to allowed more condos being built, etc.
