(I'm really jealous that you can get good apples without breaking the bank. Michigan's apple crop was just about wiped out by weather so we're hurting here.)

But about the talking heads. I do watch MSNBC a lot, and I'm finding UP with Chris Hayes a must-watch on Saturday and Sunday mornings. He is smart and articulate and invites guests from both sides who are the same. They actually discuss issues rather than trying to out-soundbite each other, and that's because they know they have more than mere seconds to get their points across. It's refreshing.

I can't watch Rev. Al or Ed Schultz, however. They shout and I can't stand shouters. Lawrence O'Donnell says what I want to hear most of the time, but he tends to talk too slowly, giving the impression that he's lecturing to people he apparently thinks can't understand things otherwise. I still like Rachel Maddow a lot, but even she gets wrapped up in theatrics when I want her to do the solid reporting she's so good at.

I don't watch CNN as much anymore, though I sometimes watch Anderson Cooper. I absolutely cannot spend more than a few seconds with Wolf Blitzer. But I do see an important place for talking-head shows. Politicians and their minions go on them to argue their cases and whether we think they're right or wrong, they're almost always fascinating to watch.

Sun, 07 Oct 2012 16:09:39 +0000 Ramona comment 166463 at http://dagblog.com I was wrong, I am http://dagblog.com/comment/166459#comment-166459
In reply to Okay, I'm going to say what

I was wrong, I am convinced.

I really was not thinking of it like this; I mean I call rush and beckerhead and cnbc and fox news and....whores all the time.

Again, as I mentioned elsewhere, I originally wrote horse.

I was even going to pull this damn blog but I have too many comments and if I change the title now; well I look even worse.

mea culpa

Sun, 07 Oct 2012 15:36:09 +0000 Richard Day comment 166459 at http://dagblog.com I agree with you Mona. Hardly, it's on CNN, a channel that has morphed into Fox Lite. But is she a whore, no, she is just doing what she thinks her job is and that is to drive ratings. She isn't able to do it of course, but that is all she is doing. Turn on SyFy or last night AMC for the nth run of Groundhog Day, (I love that movie it's my favorite) but ignore Cable Talking heads, they drive the news, they make the news, but they don't report the news and as long as you know that, you know everything you need to know about those channels.

I need more coffee and need to get back to my canning!

Sun, 07 Oct 2012 14:49:05 +0000 tmccarthy0 comment 166457 at http://dagblog.com Okay, I'm going to say what http://dagblog.com/comment/166455#comment-166455
In reply to ERIN BURNETT; A TROJAN HORSE

Okay, I'm going to say what you're all waiting to hear from the little ladies here: I'm no fan of Erin Burnett (I've written about her here), but calling her a whore and a pig and then talking about sucking corporate cocks makes you sound like little boys trying to talk about a serious issue by using kid talk. It rarely ever works, except among other little boys.

Sorry, Richard, but you lost me right away. I have no idea where you've gone with this, because I didn't read beyond the first few paragraphs. If that's okay with you, it's fine with me, too. Just wanted you to know how it looks from this woman's POV.

Sun, 07 Oct 2012 14:04:17 +0000 Ramona comment 166455 at http://dagblog.com My not-too-subtle sarcasm http://dagblog.com/comment/166437#comment-166437
In reply to I was probably off base; I

My not-too-subtle sarcasm implied you offended all women.

How many professional women are "bitches", "sluts", "whores" from word go, in obscene sexual terms, despite just doing their jobs the same as men?

Rush is still on the air, never missed a paycheck, for grotesquely labeling Sandra Fluke a slut and describing in detail her imagined love life.

I'm amazed we can be so politically correct on all things Republican, but the rules ease up on the rhetoric we use for our own ends.

McKaley is unimpressed.

Sun, 07 Oct 2012 06:42:30 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 166437 at http://dagblog.com Or call jolly--he's the http://dagblog.com/comment/166430#comment-166430
In reply to But aren't we confusing

Or call jolly--he's the expert on these kinds of distinctions!

Sun, 07 Oct 2012 01:35:07 +0000 erica20 comment 166430 at http://dagblog.com I was probably off base; I http://dagblog.com/comment/166410#comment-166410
In reply to In lieu of "w" language

I was probably off base; I originally wrote horse and then I love over at the TV and there is Erin B on CNN just lying her ass off and...

Sorry if I offended thee.

Sat, 06 Oct 2012 22:05:25 +0000 Richard Day comment 166410 at http://dagblog.com all I know is that the one I http://dagblog.com/comment/166403#comment-166403
In reply to Well, you had me scared there

all I know is that the one I am talking about is a brunette!

Sat, 06 Oct 2012 18:36:49 +0000 Richard Day comment 166403 at http://dagblog.com
