I would say that this will bring down the republican control in the 2014 mid terms. People need to be pissed off to show up in the polls for a mid term. There is a lot of comments flying around on face book and blogs on this. That means there will be plenty of outside help from progressive donating money and phone banking to bring your Gov. down. If the people don't want it, it won't stay that way. It takes time to undo the damage a poor governor can do to a state. A grass roots movement is much harder to hurt then a union and can be very effective. These Republicans are fooling themselves to think that people look down on labor. Labor is important in a democracy and it is important part of the economy. What we need is a strong labor party.

Thank you, AD, I needed a little pep talk and this was a good one. I'm trying to write about it, but I'm coming up blank. I'm demoralized, for sure. I've lived in this state for all but five years, and most of the people I know are or were union members.

I know how effective unions are, and I know how hard the opposition has been trying for something like this. It's been going on since the 1930s, when my dad and my father-in-law were striking and sitting-in in order to make life better for us all.

I'm hoping the people who have been fighting against turning Michigan into a Right to Work state won't give up now. The fighters before us must be rolling in their graves.

Hmmm...organized, systematic efforts to suppress Latino and African American votes. Efforts in legislatures such as Wisconsin, Ohio and now Michigan to try to undermine and weaken if not destroy organized labor...

It seems the modern day GOP's approach to dealing with those with beliefs, ideals and interests it opposes is to try to silence them. Apparently, Governor Snyder and Michigan's Republican legislators did not get the memo from last month's elections, that efforts to suppress and silence the voices of those attempting to participate in and have a voice in our democracy and our economy can backfire and blow up in one's face.

I stand in solidarity with those in Michigan, who know that such a governing philosophy and MO is totally at odds with our country's noblest beliefs and ideals, and practices when we are at our best. We today stand defeated. But we will not be silenced. We will resume the struggle for real, lived, and, yes, very messy because it simply is, democracy.
