I think the whole multi-state voter suppression is a racist-based agenda of the GOP & conservative groups. What that has to do with a lone nut at CPAC, I don't really know.

And Democrats regularly look for anyone or any comment to use as an example of Republican racism, such as the heavy parsing of Christie's "boy" comment the other day, or the 2 idiots tossed from the convention for throwing peanuts at staff & making "feed the animals" comments.

When I was younger, dumb racist comments from nobodies in a crowd didn't make the national papers or 3000 blogs. I would guess racial tolerance is much better today & unthinking use of racist terms is much lower, but that doesn't mean we don't push the borders of humor/political incorrectness, or that there aren't still some people with hugely racist philosophy who may keep it private or burst out in public.

You're not about David Duke and that group of white supremacists only illustrates that that is more than likely where this kid is coming from.

The big difference now may be that white supremacists may be aware of what looks really overtly racist and are going to avoid that - hense groups like Youth For Western Civilization, etc.

It's not manufactured. The Republican Party and its supporters let the racial gaffes go regularly without any real help.

And regarding taking down my "ludicrous claims", I basically noted that this is a big kerfluffle over 1 guy in a CPAC audience - not even an exec/board member/politician/staff member - who spit out hypercharged racist ideas - likely to get some attention, which he did, but didn't even use a racial epithet as you then diverted the discussion to.

You then claimed that we'd gotten so much politer over the years, and I noted the white supremacists, fundamentalists, survivalists, et al rising in the 1980's/90's (eg. Alan Berg vs. Aryan Nation/The Order), so I'm not sure when our period of public racial respect came.

But if you feel you "took me down", enjoy the feeling. Glad to make someone happy in this crazy, crazy world.
