Thanks AA, that is a somewhat unexpected take on Mrs. Thatcher. I think the "Ealing comedy" scenario he imagines is actually the plot of an O. Henry story called "The Ransom of Red Chief," but never mind that. I did not know Russell Brand was such a good writer.

Annette was the first crush for a lot of young boys of that generation and the object of admiration of a lot of young girls. She was pretty and sweet and seemed to be without guile.

Margaret Thatcher, on the other hand, was admired in a different way, for being tough and an example of a 'gal that can play with the big boys and make 'em all knuckle-under" ...

Both were known to hang around with grade "B" movie actors.

M... .I... C...... K... E...Y...... m o u s e! I remember her in the Spin and Marty serial and used to dream of being like her. Thatcher is more like. " Ding, Dong the Witch is dead." I always thought she was stiff and mean.
