After watching the events unfold yesterday, I am reminded of the drone strikes we use against other peoples, in other lands, who have gathered to celebrate.. I hope Obama will bring to Washington, some of the victims of yesterdays assault, to demand an end these indiscriminate weapons? What a cowardly act, one example for reflection; ....what the heck did .....Martin Richard, ......the 8 year old vicitm ever do, to fall prey to such malice? What ever could justify this murderer? I grieve for the loss and hope we can find out answers quickly; not only who caused this to happen, but why?

Wow, pretty startling comment.

No one forces you to take the most economic & direct way to work - let them take chauffeur-driven limos if it offends them.

Of course none of this would have led to stop-and-frisk overreach and racial profiling of various ethnic groups.

Well, looks like in the end no one was blown to bits, but I'm sure some suffered years of torment with the increased chance of being so.

(I read an interchange with Salman Rushdie yesterday, and one of the complaints lobbed at him was he was putting young storeclerks in dangers' way by not backing off and shit-canning his "insult" [what he typically referred to as a "novel"]. What his attacker didn't seem to grasp is that these dainty things handling his books were determined to, and not scared off by high-pitched religious threats. But easy to toss our freedoms out for some thin gruel on a cold night)

Meanwhile, as you posted, well planned explosions continue around Iraq, a little memento we left behind from our misadventure. I don't think they've implicated any women yet who refuse to wear swimsuits.

BOSTON — Roupen Bastajian, a state trooper from Rhode Island, was receiving his finisher’s medal after the completing the Boston Marathon when he heard an explosion behind him. He thought it was a cannon, something ceremonial. He turned and saw the second blast, and ran toward the white smoke, hoping to help anyone he could.

“I ran over there and there were at least 40 people that I saw on the ground, some without legs,” said Mr. Bastajian, 35. “It’s bad, it’s bad.”

“These runners just finished and they don’t have legs now,” he said. “So many of them. There are so many people without legs. It’s all blood. There’s blood everywhere. You got bones, fragments. It’s disgusting. It’s like a war zone.”

Mr. Bastajian, who was a sergeant in the Marines for four years, had finished in 4 hours 2 minutes 42 seconds at 2:43 p.m., about 7 minutes before the first blast. If he had been a few strides slower, he might have been among the dozens of victims Monday when bombs exploded at the marathon. Instead, he was among the runners treating other runners, a makeshift emergency medical service of exhausted athletes.

“We put tourniquets on,” Mr. Bastajian said. “I tied at least five, six legs with tourniquets. It’s horrible.” [.....]

I for one have never been against the institution of random search of bags on the NYC subway. When that was started, on the forum I frequented back then, you would have thought from the outrage that it was the end of the civil rights. I thought: nobody is forcing you to use the subway. Likewise, the reaction to Iraq stories about frisking people waiting in lines back then, there was outrage for all the supposedly offended modest Islamic people. Well, I'd be happy for my Mom to have to wear a bathing suit to wait in line for cooking oil if it meant a lesser chance she'd be blown to bits doing so.

A Murdoch rag, the NY Post has already headlined a Saudi man wounded from the bomb as a suspect. TPM reports the police say it's not true.

April 15, IRS day. I had local NYC news on in the background when I heard the breaking report of this story, which the anchor said was on the AP wire. Before that, they were doing "rush to the Post Office to get the postmark" interviews.

Hundreds, maybe thousands of abandoned bags, plus, runners had personal bags, backpacks, whatever, waiting at the finish line. They must all look pretty scary.
