In one cited case it took 5 years for a murder case to go to trail. There is also the case of a man accused of murder who spent three years in jail awaiting trial.

The ruling in the Manning case was that the delays were necessary given the amount of data involved.

Thu, 11 Jul 2013 20:21:49 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 181193 at http://dagblog.com 3 years waiting for trial http://dagblog.com/comment/181181#comment-181181
In reply to Shorter version Scenario

3 years waiting for trial isn't torture. It's intimidation & harassment. Charge of aiding the enemy carries possible lifetime sentence - it's intimidation, not torture. Manning pleaded guilty to 10 of 22 charges, with max 20 years in jail. The judge already reduced his jail time by 112 days due to jail mistreatment / "torture" - pretty insignificant reduction for outrageous behavior. Intimidation via torture gets thumbs up. You can Wiki all this.

Basta.

Thu, 11 Jul 2013 16:10:55 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 181181 at http://dagblog.com Shorter version Scenario http://dagblog.com/comment/181177#comment-181177
In reply to Made my day

Shorter version

Scenario 1

Judge : Why are you here today?

Manning: I committed a crime and the jailer intimidated me

Judge: How did they intimidate you?

Manning: They locked me up for committing a crime

Judge: Case dismissed

Scenario 2

Judge : Why are you here today?

Manning: I committed a crime and the jailers tortured me

Judge: How did they torture you?

Manning: Sleep deprivation, etc

Judge: Any evidence of torture?

Manning: I have an Army Colonel and a UN torture expert as witnesses

Judge: Let me set a trail date

Thu, 11 Jul 2013 14:13:21 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 181177 at http://dagblog.com Made my day http://dagblog.com/comment/181176#comment-181176
In reply to No idea what you're talking

Made my day

Thu, 11 Jul 2013 14:00:32 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 181176 at http://dagblog.com No idea what you're talking http://dagblog.com/comment/181173#comment-181173
In reply to You said intimidation.
