Well I mentioned Macklemore earlier - he dresses like a hipster and raps about same sex marriage. And then The Roots - they're doing an entire album with Elvis Costello. So maybe they still are hip-hop but it's not just what you associate with hip-hop.

In the Bronx where I live (oft cited as the "birthplace" of hip hop,) it mostly seems to me to be young Hispanics who are the big fans of hip hop culture now; the African-American kids not so much anymore. Preppy style and comportment seems to be a growing big thing with the latter (Obama influence? And need it be said that Michelle Obama wants everyone to like farmer's markets and picking their own fruit?) So in fact, to me, some of the items on the site begin to look quite dated, unless it's name were to be changed to "stuff white & black Americans like."

Though it is very acceptable and common for the right kind of white people to dress and act as though they were Japanese, Chinese, or European, it is completely unacceptable for them to act like rappers.

I've gotten that a bit but....not as much as you think. Maybe it's because I apparently look Hispanic and Hispanics have always been a big part of hip-hop? It's sort of silly when that comes up and shows that racial stereotypes and prejudices obscure reality. Two of the most successful rappers of all time were and are white - Eminem and Macklemore.
