Its people decided it was time to rid themselves of an entire useless third of their population, and so the descendants of the Circling Poets concocted a story that their planet would shortly be destroyed in a great catastrophe. (It was apparently under threat from a "mutant star goat"). The useless third of the population (consisting of hairdressers, tired TV producers*, insurance salesmen, personnel officers, security guards, management consultants, telephone sanitisers and the like) were packed into the B-Ark, one of three purported giant Ark spaceships, and told that everyone else would follow shortly in the other two. The other two thirds of the population, of course, did not follow and "led full, rich and happy lives until they were all suddenly wiped out by a virulent disease contracted from a dirty telephone".

Mon, 12 Aug 2013 23:32:01 +0000 EmmaZahn comment 182610 at http://dagblog.com In the late 19th century, http://dagblog.com/comment/182609#comment-182609
In reply to More than 100,000 want to go to Mars and not return, project says

In the late 19th century, there were a number of experimental Utopias founded. This sounds like a 21st century variation on that urge.

Mon, 12 Aug 2013 21:38:48 +0000 MrSmith1 comment 182609 at http://dagblog.com Sounds like the plot of Out http://dagblog.com/comment/182606#comment-182606
In reply to All reports say that Mars

Sounds like the plot of Out of the Silent Planet.

Mon, 12 Aug 2013 18:01:43 +0000 Donal comment 182606 at http://dagblog.com All reports say that Mars http://dagblog.com/comment/182601#comment-182601
In reply to HELL, why should we go to

All reports say that Mars once looked like earth.
