Wow! That really chafes my grits (since Jimmy Carter's name has come up)...I had previously proposed a constitutional amendment (prompted by W's mispronunciation) to the effect that no one might be elected president who could not pronounce "nuclear"...Carter I can grok, he being disadvantaged by a Georgia birth, but Ike??!!!

As much fun as it is to make fun of Republicans, I think we can credit our very own "nucular" physicist Jimmy Carter for the invention of that particular pronunciation.

Edit to add: it appears that we can blame Republicans if we want to, as Eisenhower used this pronunciation himself.

And we have every reason to believe that if the Democrats used the filibuster like the Republicans, then the Republicans would've already nuked the filibuster. They don't need no stinkin' precedent to do so in the future, either.

So they will just have to win some elections other in gerrymandered districts in the House. I don't think the threat holds water right now. The electorate is going in a different direction from the past 35 years.
