In It's Even Worse Than it Looks, 2012, Norman Ornstein, the only sane guy at AEI, notes that with 'the new politics of extremism' the mid-term elections further ensure inaction and obstruction in the federal government.

He also says there is no hope of changing our antiquated non-parliamentary system of divided government, we are too used to it. He says 4 year terms for Reps might allow a new President a bigger window to get something done, but would, of course, require an amendment to our creaky 220+ year old Constitution.

I was just reading that there is only a 1% chance that the Democrats will take the house in 2014 and will loose 5 to 10 seats. Ba Hum Bug to them too! This is all based on historical data. Well it won't be Florida's fault. We will pick up another seat in March for the Democrats. Alex Sink is now picking up endorsements from Republican leaning businesses. She is double digits ahead of Jolly. I doubt there will be a Republican wave in 2014. Republicans can't behave themselves long enough anymore to improve their image. They are scary.

The kids have now sold 175 items on Esty ranging from $10 to $20. My grand daughter-in-law has worked hard on this project. I am tired too because I am the clean up crew of one. The sequester was really a bad thing in so many ways and punitive to people. They both made Dean's list. It will be over my dead body that these little kids will sweep floors for their lunch. Republicans are very scary.

Time to ice some doughnuts that I just made in the oven. They are shaped like candy canes.

Well, what gets to me is that the end IS nigh for all of us but certainly when one reaches the golden age of 90.

It is like he wished that everyone would go out WITH him. hahaahahahah

Maybe we, as a race, are just looking for certainty and those folks who express certainty supply us with some sort of security.

As I grow older, the more uncertain I become.

There are some times when I'll discover something and think, against all reasonable odds, that I'm the only one who knows about it.

Though radio is a broadcast medium, listening to the radio in the car (or even at home alone) can somehow encourage that thought. It's an intimate medium.

Such was the case for me with Mr. Camping. My life takes me up and down Rte 95 quite a bit, and there are long stretches where there isn't much to listen to.

Even just flipping the dial would often bring me to his program, and something about his voice--its quality and certainty--made me want to listen.

He'd take question after question and dispatch each one, often with a mild reprimand that amounted to saying the questioner didn't know what he was talking about.

He believed that a simple statement of the truth was enough to set the questioner free him from his ignorance. Not infrequently, the truth was arrived at through mathematical calculations based on biblical verses and events.

No fire and brimstone, though he clearly believed in both; it wasn't a part of his pitch as far as I could tell. Just a cool reading of the indisputable facts laid out in the Bible.

Never imagined he'd be so bold as to predict the end of the world in our lifetimes ...let alone in a few months from now! Wow, now THAT was exciting. And even though he adjusted the date once, he never pulled any punches. Never said that he hadn't meant what he clearly had meant. And then his final apology and repentance for having made a sinful statement.

(Wish I'd been smart enough to start a post-Rapture animal adoption service.)

But his sudden fame with this prediction brought me up a bit short because I realized I was not the only one who listened to this guy.

I could see Rand supervising the drone fleet in Medieval England looking for pickpockets and starving orphans. The 3 ghosts of Christmas would not be enough for these guys.
