If I were one of them, I'd kickstart Rithotz's patronizing ass (rhetorically, of course).</p> <p>In any case, I expect that starry-eyed tech-lovers will think twice before investing in another Oculus. Unfortunately, I don't know what Kickstarter can do about it. Prohibit entrepreneurs from selling out? I'm not sure such a contract would hold up in court.</p> </div></div></div> Thu, 27 Mar 2014 22:06:47 +0000 Michael Wolraich comment 193830 at http://dagblog.com Ritholtz was making that http://dagblog.com/comment/193826#comment-193826 <a id="comment-193826"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/193818#comment-193818">&quot;...when it comes to</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>Ritholtz was making that statement about investors in general and he's likely right.  You're right that the Oculus problem is not going to come up very often.  But, in this case, the Kickstarter people really missed out because nobody else would have funded something like this in exchange for a t-shirt.</p> </div></div></div> Thu, 27 Mar 2014 21:48:05 +0000 Michael Maiello comment 193826 at http://dagblog.com "...when it comes to http://dagblog.com/comment/193818#comment-193818 <a id="comment-193818"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/193801#comment-193801">I don&#039;t think Ritholtz</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>"...when it comes to understanding anything involving capital, you are often no better than a 2-year-old."</p> <p>The funders did not misunderstand capital. Financially, they made a shrewd choice. Unlike so many other ventures, Oculus did not fail. What they miscalculated was human nature. And I say <em>miscalculated</em> because even though Oculus's sell-out is hardly surprising, it was not a given. Not every entrepreneur sells out to facebook, especially if they're not venture-funded.</p> </div></div></div> Thu, 27 Mar 2014 20:57:37 +0000 Michael Wolraich comment 193818 at http://dagblog.com
