One report says look at all the good things that might happen; the other says look at all the horrible things that will happen. Human nature being what it is, is it really surprising that some people prefer to be hopeful?

Not that prophets of doom are never useful. Sometimes they can scare enough people into changing their ways and avoid doom but then they are disbelieved retroactively.

Timing of prophecies is important as well. Too soon and too much harping will tend to make people tune out. Too late and then efforts would be better directed at figuring out what to do after the event, assuming there is an after.

Just musing. So they made up their own report using almost the same acronyms (NIPCC) to confuse and to make it seem official. They released it after IPCC report came out.
