Here is an update on the fires in Russia.

About 70 wildfires have been registered in Siberia with a total 19,000 hectares of forest ablaze.

So far only one-third of them have been localized. More than 2,000 men and hundreds of pieces of machinery are involved in the fire-fighting effort.

The Emergencies Ministry has blamed most of the fires on spring grass burning that is normally practiced by farmers to prepare crop land for sowing.
