They don't have the reporters out there like they used to.

Climate changes can cause political unrest. Over all this country seems to know very little about the other side of the world. Syria and Ukraine both had prolong droughts before civil unrest started. I don't see Putin as a villain but someone dealing with a drought and a neighboring country that has a large Russian population that has it roots all the way back to the 12th century with Russia. He has his hands full right now. Ukraine was part of Russia until it was carved off of it after WWI. Lennon showed no interest in the Ukraine territory after the war with the Peace Conference that drew new boarders for countries from the old empires that fell during WWI. There was no Ukraine before that.

Putin will do what he needs to do from a Russian perspective to keep Ukraine from destroying itself in a civil war. Ukraine was the wheat producer for Europe and Russia also depended on Ukraine's agricultural products to feed Russia. Russia had to stop exporting grains in 2010 because of the drought.

USA have done it's political posturing to keep our uniformed population politically somewhat quiet. But we really don't have an understanding about the food problem caused by global warming that is going on in Eurasia right now or the history of Russia. We can't visualize it right now because of the abundance of food this country still has. Though that is now changing in food prices we see at the markets.

Mon, 19 May 2014 15:51:31 +0000 trkingmomoe comment 195513 at http://dagblog.com Our media is ignoring it and http://dagblog.com/comment/195510#comment-195510
In reply to Balkans suffers worst floods in a century

Our media is ignoring it and we should be paying more attention to this.

Yet one landslide in Washington State that killed people got plenty of coverage. It is probably the controversial nature of the explanation (climate change) that they are shying away from the coverage.

Mon, 19 May 2014 13:19:11 +0000 Elusive Trope comment 195510 at http://dagblog.com One more point. This sprawling high pushed an extreme amplitude ridge pattern north toward Arctic Russia, Scandinavia, and the Kara and Barents Seas. Behind this ridge, toward Central and Eastern Europe, a deep trough dipole pattern developed. A cold and unstable pit in the atmosphere hungry for storms and drawing in energy from the far-north Arctic near Svalbard.

By late Tuesday, the deep pit had fallen down into a cut-off and powerful low pressure system, wringing out the moisture spilling off the heat dome high. By today, that system had turned into a kind of inland hurricane as it dumped as much as four months worth of rainfall in less than 40 hours over broad sections of Bosnia and Serbia.

http://robertscribbler.wordpress.com/2014/05/15/climate-change-and-a-mangled-jet-stream-bring-historic-deluge-to-bosnia-and-serbia/

Sun, 18 May 2014 19:43:48 +0000 trkingmomoe comment 195498 at http://dagblog.com
