I'm finding that a haiku doesn't have to be a haiku, just a cadence for poetry in general.

It was once said, disparagingly, that Emily Dickinson's poems could all be sung to the tune of "The Yellow Rose of Texas".

So it could be said that the longer poem sequence is based upon Porter's intro to Night and Day---to wit:

Like the tick tick tick

Of the stately clock as it

Stands against the wall.

Maybe the last line could be:

Maybe, "no place for dreamboats".

That was a strange date, classic photo, formal dance, we're both smoking and looking in opposite directions. She didn't speak Ohioan and I didn't speak Grosse Point. It went downhill from there.
